Ihaha Campsite | Established Campground

Lovely 10 sites camp pn the bank of Chobe River. Very clean ablutions x 2. Site maintained daily - raked and bins. Site bumber allocatexwhen booking but seems to change with Kofi (sp) intervention . Allocated sits 8. Artived midday, 40 degrees not a tree. Some low trees at the bottom but not great to use as no view. When we got back to camp at 7pm, we were told to go to site 1 by other campers and someone was on 8. No idea. Would be far easier to cjose site on arrival as everyobe has differenr needs, eg mirning/evening shade , sun for solar panels, close to ablutions etc. Neefless to say, its stunning with game drive routes both east and west to occupy you fir a few days. Unbeluevable elephanr, lion, raptors, water birds and very haopy to see sable antelope. Apologies its P356 ppn for SADC

Great location and Coffee (unsure of spelling) the camp manager was very friendly and helpful. We got allocated campsite 3 and would not recommend as no shade but close to the ablutions. He helped arrange a boat ride for us and laundry which saved us some time further down our journey.

ihaha campsites ranked! (numbers not impressive not entered)

2 - great shade! Private. Further form rover (in Oct)
5 & 6 also good shade
7 - no shade at all - but clear view of river
8 - great sunset view, clump of trees downtown he bottom with good shade
9 - where I stayed- big tree, average shade. Close to 8. Feels safe due to height

loved the one way river road which I followed past Hatab (or what was)

First thing, every campsite has shade enough. Braii stand and fire place on every site.
It's expensive, yes, like all the campsites in parks. Otherwise, really beautiful view and sunset. We stayed 2 nights. At the first evening hunderds of elefants right in front of us, between the campsite and the chobe river. In the evening one elefant came really close to the car/tent. At night 2 lions cam around (3/4 am), we heard them (crazy how loud they roar if it's some meters next to your tent).
We stayed on campsite nr. 4 directly next to the abolutions which are okay, but warm water probably was emty when I took a shower @5pm.

Really enjoyed our stay in Chobe NP at this camp. The camp sites are large, right on the river with firepit and brain, a cold water tap nearby. We had camp 1 which is the furthest site out so a walk to the ablution but only in the daylight because at night you must stay by the camp and fire. The ablution block is clean with hot water showers and flushing toilets. The best thing is that this is a Bush camp with ALL wildlife free to roam through! Also we were up and out into the park at daylight and took the river route 3 times and saw many, many lions each time, including a large pride who hunted the Buffalo as they crossed the river back to the Bush, 3 separate Buffalo kills in 1 morning! Usually by being right in the park we had at least 1.5 hours before the game trucks arrived. The difficulty with booking camps in the park is that the spaces are often shown as booked so you are not able to book but these are by companies who book and pay at the beginning of the year and very often don't have clients to use them but don't cancel. on our second night 2 sets of campers were turned away as the camp was apparently full but that night we were totally alone on the camp site! My advice is if they say its full take a chance and turn up at 4.30pm you still would have time to get back to Kasane or through the Ngoma gate and Mwandi view camp is only 10 mins from Ngoma gate and very pleasant as an alternative. Our experience was we felt safe even on our own, we did have a ranger drive by early evening to say hello but not sure if anyone is around all night.

River front campsites.
Not much shade so best to be driving in the afternoon to avoid the hot sun in camp.
Arrived to buffalo and elephant super view. Ablutions basic but clean and in good order.
Firewood 50pula for a decent size bundle.

Only issue is that our camp site was double booked, luckily a spot opened up for us as some other campers did not arrive. bloke at the entrance apologised and said it was a recurring issue. So best to confirm booking a couple of times !

uperbe Camp très bien placé.
Toutes les places Sont au bord de l'eau, c' est vraiment tranquille.
Les sanitaires sont très propres et les douches tièdes.
Nous reviendrons.

One of our favourite sites! Pitches are all on the river front, epic sunset. Well spaced out. Not full when we visited so felt like we were alone. (For context all the other national park camp sites we stayed at were totally full). We didn’t use their showers so can’t comment. Security wise we were fine, we were advised not to leave valuables on dashboard, and there were security patrols in the night. We really enjoyed staying in the park rather than in Kasane and travelling in because of being in the park at sunrise and sunset and being at the quieter end of the park. We stayed 2 nights.

Stayed one night, nice pitches next to large old trees and decent facilities. Didn't realise how bad the reputation was for security (windshields being smashed) and dirty facilities. Things seem to be better but worth asking about security at the time of staying

Such a great location overlooking the river- worth the trip and perhaps not perfect ablutions. Very friendly ranger delivered firewood to us.

This campsite is beautiful! The bathrooms seem to have been redone and the worktops and fire places are new as well. So much game here and such beautiful views. You are right on the river. Definitely worth a visit. I think a lot of upgrade has happened since some of the last comments. There is still music which you can hear from Namibia but I guess they can’t do anything about that

Amazing location right by the river. Coming out of the bathrooms I found myself literally surrounded by monkeys and deer, just as scared as I was. Looks like they're starting to do some maintenance, bathrooms newly painted, while the second building is still closed and there's basically no warm water. Watching Giraffes and elephants right from camp, and having animals come right through made it a worthwhile experience for me, while I agree like any wild camp in Botswana, you pay for it, though the day fee still came to twice the camping fee. The main reason for my great experience was that they don't close the gate, so you can enjoy viewing the animals when are most active and in front of the truly spectacular sunset without worrying to get locked into the park (though of course you shouldn't drive at night). So we did get to watch 3 lions trying to hunt for a while.

One more note, when I called directly to book the camp I first listed number had a fax machine connected, the second was disconnected, the third gave me a different number to call. There they said there was only one spot available, in 5 days time, and only for one night. So I drove to the Sedudu Gate (Kasane) anyway to enter for the day and take my chances if maybe there would be a cancellation. Turned out they confirmed the spot right at the gate. When I arrived in camp, they told me only 3 of the 10 sites are taken, while in fact there were 2 vehicles in one site and one vehicle coming the day after. So, yes, looks like poorly managed.

Camp sites with great views and wildlife sometimes coming through camp. However ablutions not cleaned regularly or properly - gents full of bat guano or rat droppings and floor filthy. Toilets disgustingly stained. Warden off sick when we arrived but it’s obvious that the ablutions had been bad for a while.

Very dissapointed by this campsite. The abblutions are disgusting, in very poor condition and the male toilets are infested with rats. When we were here, 4 groups had to relocate because campsites 3-8 had fire ants, making is impossible to sit there without getting stung. Overall very poorly maintained campsite and definitely the worst one in the Chobe/Moremi parks.

After having read the positive reviews of Ihaha campsite, we made a telephonic booking for 2 nights in the camp. Our total fees came to BWP1580 to spend 2 nights in the camp. We were therefore VERY disappointed to see cattle grazing happily with zebras and impala next to the Chobe river and herdsman paddling on the river. When we complained about the fact that we could not even take pictures of the game without having cattle in the pictures, we were informed that it was on the other side of the river and therefore in Namibia. The point is the main attraction of Ihaha campsite is the view over the river and the game coming to drink water in the river. The camp is unfenced and “wild”, yet one sees cattle and herdsmen all day long. It certainly does not feel as if one camps in Chobe NP. At the price one has to pay to enjoy a bush experience, but see Nguni cattle all day, I would certainly not recommend this camp.
Please note: If you stay for 2 nights in the park, the actual park fees charged are for 3 days and exclude the camp fees.

10 primitive campsites in Chobe National Park with a nice view over the Chobe floodplain, each of them with lots of privacy. Ablutions are ok. Many animals around. Wild, remote and quiet. No Orange signal.

booking compulsory with Kwalate since always fully booked, many visitors don't show up though, maybe possibility to come and enquire if empty spot for the night. Price for 2 internationals = 550 pulas.
For 1 night camping within the park, necessity to get a 2-day permit (for 2 internationals with car 580p).
Worth it.

We stayed at site number 2 and loved it. Herd of 25 elephants walked past at dusk, magical! Some sites are very small and used as a through road, some are large, shady with a great view. No check in office, guy drives past morning and evening to check on things. Ablutions okay if there's not a warthog sleeping in the shower! 😁
Great time to visit as hardly anyone here, less than half sites occupied on a national holiday. Fab up close game viewing on the riverfront.

Very poor maintained, 260 pula ppn only cash. if you are higher than 3.5m ask to pass by the staff camp.

Outstanding place to camp on the Chobe River, fire pits and average ablutions. you need to book ahead and make sure your receipt has the campsite number because we also had someone in our camping spot who preferred our shade. Our campsite number 2 had a good mix of shade, views and privacy.

Nice unfenced campsite wiht central ablution blok, clean and warm shower, site 1 very nice open vieuw over the river, no monkey’s for us but lots of elephants along the way into camp, later in the evening they all past trough and next to our campsite drink and swim in the river, at least 70!

Definitely our favorite campsite in Chobe! The location on the river overlooking the plains is spectacular, especially at sunset. On our drive in we were surrounded by hundreds of elephants, which was both a scary and spectacular experience.

Looking back we wished we stayed here atleast 2 nights.

The abolutions were clean and well maintained and we had water and a bbq at our campsite.

One downside is it seems no one at the gate really checks which campsite you should be staying in, as when we arrived someone was in our campsite and didn't want to move and said that it was more first come fieat serve, which was fine for us as all the campsites were lovely, but didnt seem too professional.

Good sites with nice view. When we arrived there were many baboons but didn’t disturb us and they went away in the evening. We‘ve heard some lions in the evening and morning. Just drive around and you‘ll see a lot of different animals.
The ablution is old and dark. The water pressure was very good for showering.
We paid BWP 270.- pppn.

Very nice campground but get yourself informed about the latest security information. There have been some armed robberys from people who cross the river (illegaly) at night in little boats. When we where there the army was patrolling at night. We shared the site with other overlanders to make us less of a target.

We liked Ihaha Camp in northern Chobe best with its views of the Chobe River but Moremi and Savuti were good as well.
