Camping 7500, Beer 2000
Usually space for 2 to 3 campingcars, at the moment the campsite is flooded (see pic) so we stayed one night at the parking lot next to the house
you can make a little hike to the hilltop, which we highly recommend
Felix (camp manager) is super friendly
They offer food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) but we didn't eat there

Still the same prices.
Camping: 7.500 per person.
Double room without bathroom: 30.000.
Double room with bathroom: 65.000.
Beautiful private beach, even if there are 6 abandoned cement pillars just in front of it.
Now is raining season, so we asked for the double room without toilet. It was a hole:
small.
mosquito net broken.
bed not confortable.
no fan.
very dark.
So sadly we left and we found Venice Beach Lodge, 2 km south of here.
Big room with bathroom and fan for 30.000. 2 breakfast included.
We have created the place.

It’s now called Mufasa Eco lodge, we paid 7,500 MWK PPPN

We really enjoyed our stay here! Gorgeous spot right on the lake and the bathroom facilities were good too! The staff was super friendly. There wasn’t a place to wash dishes but they did let us go into the kitchen to wash up.

No wifi. You can rent snorkel gear & kayaks, there are hippos on the other side of the marsh (in the lake!) and the view from the mountain is unreal, would highly recommend the climb!

LOVED OUR STAY HERE!! Serene, secluded private beach. Shaded camping and bike spot directly on the beach. Very quiet mid week. Busy with locals on weekends!

Contrary to other reviews I was very satisfied with the ablutions. It’s a small mosaic building with two toilets, two showers and one containing both. It’s unisex and shared with staff and day visitors. Gets cleaned twice a day but I think when it’s busy it’s hard to stay on top of it.

Food was hit and miss. We had a couple of nice dishes and a couple of not so nice ones. Like waiting an hour for breakfast and then the entire plate is cold. Or spaghetti bolognese with barely a spoonful of sauce. So we ended up eating all our remaining meals in towns which were better for half the cost and the walk is very nice (15-20 min.).

Food aside it was an absolute lovely place to camp for a few nights, great value for money and wish we could have stayed longer. Owner and staff are very nice!

Road to the lodge has been built up so easy access now. Really beautiful location on the lake. For vehicle camping there is one, maybe two spots. You follow a narrow track behind the lodge and have your own little spot of beach. Hippos grunting in the marsh behind us but we never saw them. Good value at 5000 Kwacha per person. Ablutions run down but serviceable. because of limited camping spots would recommend calling or emailing in advance. Strong cell service on Airtel. https://mufasaecolodge.business.site/

CAN NOW ACCESS BY UTE. Water isn’t too deep
Now and easily accessible by Ute. Amazing popping out at lake. Very hospitable hosts and got drinks in for us from town within 20min. $5usdpp for camping. Double room with ensuite available for $40usd. Double room without ensuite $20usd, would recommend supporting if you can

The manager Felix is a great guy: very helpful. There isn't much to do at the backpackers apart from drink beer, take a swim and read a book. There is a limited menu. I camped with a ground tent, for which there is a small amount of space. The cost was US$8.

Warning! In May the entry was flooded. When I drove out my car was stuck and nearly lost in the water. Take care!

Report Check-In

Still a nice place. Unfortunately the road to the lodge is flooded. But they have safe parking nearby and they take you and hour luggage on a canoe and raft. The water is receding slowly. This is damage caused by the Cyclone. I couldn't camp because my motorbike was parked away and it was to much to carry everything. But camping spots are nice. I had a room for 15000 Kwacha. or 15 usd. Food is around 6,600 and breakfast 5000. Still a good friendly place. They have containers of drinking water in different places. You can fill your water bottle.

Loved it, Felix took care of everything we needed. Beautiful place with awesome people. We were set up on our own beach hidden from other guests with the best views possible. Clean, daily maintenance. Veggie gardens, guests free to pick. Pet friendly with their dog, Junior, that kept our puppy busy. We camped for 7 days and truly loved it. Ablutions what you can expect in Africa. Be careful of the guides and pestering local beggers. They will rip you off. Other than that, 9/10, easy.

I stayed 3 nights camped next to the lake. I thought it was fine. I didn't actually find the showers warm, maybe it was me. Helpful friendly staff. Easy walk or bike ride into town.

Fantastic place to camp if you have your own tent or rent their safari tent. We camped with our car and rooftent and were lucky because there was only one spot available for a car/motorhome. We were here when a company rented most of the chalets and rooms so it was very noisy because the music was blasting all night long until the early hours of the morning, stopped for 2 hours nd then started up again. Other than that, on most days it is very quiet. The bay and sunrise is beautiful.
Wifi was not available when we were there but even when there is wifi, it is not free. Wifi is not free in Malawi.

We overnight in the parking area with our truck. Rustic is the right word to describe this place but it has its charm. We had long interesting conversations with the lady owner. I'll take the previous comment about the crocodile etc with a pinch of salt. Excuses to get out of paying? We only stayed one night.

Report Check-In

Yes, the beach is nice, camping is 3500 pppn with your own tent or 4500 pppn in their tent. Rooms are expensive, the cheapest was 15000, very small room with no electricity, fan and bathroom. Ablutions are ok but not very clean. At the restaurant they have a menu but they only serve family dinner and that's super expensive, 5800 for rice and chicken. The second day we rented a kayak, 10 Usd...we just paddled 300 metres towards the other beach and we saw a big crocodile (3 metres). They forget to tell us there are crocodiles there, maybe not a good idea to swim. They also forgot to say the other beach belongs to the president and you can be arrested if you go there. In the evening we paid for the camping and the food and they didn't ask for the kayak but the next morning they try to ask the entire amount. Of course we refused.

At times chaotically run but charming Mufasa’s has a lot to offer with a quiet private beach, the rocks to climb and watch the sunset, the fish eagles, its all pretty perfect except when the diesel generator goes on which luckily is only 30 min twice a day, and the vibes are chilled, food is good although expensive (family dinner around Kw4500) and great campspots next to a big old boat pulled up to shore. I volunteered for a week and helped build a new veggie garden which was fun and earned me a free stay and 3 meals a day so if you are up for some rest on the journey this is an easy place to help clean up and give Riki a little support! Call them and ask for Riki to discuss volunteering, even for a couple of days...

Report Check-In

Great location, interesting boulders and sandy private beach. Camping close to beach (under low trees) possible, but 4x4 required. Warm welcome from Riki the lady owner. Interesting discussions with her and other guests... Rustic, but that's what we were looking for. Recommendable

Report Check-In

We tried getting in to the Campsite, but only 100m from the main road the tree branches were hanging so low, we turned around. I guess the max height would be around 3m, unless they cut the branches.

Report Check-In

We stayed here for three nights and the manager didn’t come near us for the whole time. The other staff were ok but we didn’t really feel a that welcome. You camp right on the beach in a quiet secluded cove which’s very nice. If you want quiet then this is better than Cape McClear. Ablutions were 2 toilets and showers shared by male and female. It needs a bit of work to bring it up to scratch and also the manager needs to be more welcoming. Cost us 3,500 Kwacha per person per night.

Report Check-In

Loved this campsite, we parked right on the beach and had a great view (although the old pier is a little strange).
Peaceful location and Ricky the owner is very welcoming, she also taught us to play Bao.
We went for 1 night and stayed 3.
3,500 pppn.

Report Check-In

Rustic campsite with beautiful view of the lake. Old broken down ship makes nice pictures. Was able to park on the beach with our camper. Ablutions clean with mosaic tiles but needs update. no power, Wi-Fi or water available. Restaurant with bar. cost 3500mk pppn

Report Check-In

Nice secluded place on its own beach (with a photogenic half-sunken boat and a not as photogenic half-built peer). Shady trees and hammocks, certainly more relaxing than the busy beach at cape Maclear. Conveniently located if you are taking the Ilala ferry. The mosaic covered ablutions are quite nice. Funky little bar, nice people. However, the set menu dinners are not worth the price for the small portions of basic dishes (like fried rice or spaghetti, I can make that myself thanks).

Report Check-In

Small campsite on sandy beach, 3000kw per night, most places are small, we parked our Daf truck on the sandy beach, it is quite deep sand in places, nice vibe to the place, bar and restaurant, 2 showers but only one with hot water, two toilets, one was broken, nice setting, villagers seem to come and go as they like, but it's not a problem

Report Check-In

Great spot at the beach. Ablutions basic, no hot water.
