Description

Lovely basic campsite with lake access for swimming. Nice lawn and tree shade (not a lot of privacy though.) Donkey-heated showers, old (a bit dirty). Flushing toilets. Two kinds of taps: pumped water from the lake and drinkable, tasty village water. Restaurant on site. Curious, friendly, professional staff. Walks, coffee and tree plantation tours. Monkeys. Cost: UGX 30,000 for camping, 15000 (???) for bandas.

A really nice campsite with lots of shade and grass. Ablutions are ok but a bit far from camping spots . Lots of monkeys around, black and white colobus and red tailed as well. But the vervet monkeys are a pain...too quick so hard to cook in peace. We did a couple of guided walks which were great. Staff are all great. Definitely recommend this place.

Report Check-In

Still a lovely place and a great spot to spend a night. The lake is wonderful to swim in (get in quickly as some leeches hang around the entrance) and the grassy camping area is nice and flat.

Very good MTN signal and the wifi is decent too.

Monkeys are pretty full on, so we didn't even try to cook. Food from the restaurant was good and pretty reasonably priced - 15K for mains, but then, oddly, 5K for chapati.

Still 30K pppn.

Well run community campsite. Small grassy site, enough space for 2 rtt's. Basic but perfectly functional showers and flushing toilets.....hot water! Helpful staff, lots of guided hiking options and tours, we did a day hike to Rwenzori mountains (outside the park) but had to have 2 armed guides as well as hiking guide £75 for 2 people all included. It was quite steep, nice views and we went to the edge of the rainforest. The monkeys at the campsite are really nice to see, vervets, black and white colobus and red tailed monkeys but they are a pain and will steal food very, very quickly! 30000 ush pppn.

Report Check-In

Nice place with lots of monkeys.
Prices went up to 30.000 pppn for camping. It’s maybe a bit on the high side now.

Report Check-In

Great campsite. Lovely view towards Rwenzoris. Friendly but not invasive staff. Went on great long walk with Robert to see 5 crater lakes. He said 3-4 hours, with birding and lunch it took us 7!! USh30,000 pp.

nous sommes resté 3 nuits tellement le site est magnifique. On peut se baigner dans le lac, partir se promener à pied, observer 3 espèces de singe et la nourriture est délicieuse.

This is the place to stay at the crater lakes in Fort Portal. A fab little campsite where you can swim in the lake. It is so peaceful, green and quiet. Also fantastic value for money!Showers and toilets were great - hot water in the evenings. Beware the monkeys - They steal any food they can, but this sort of adds to the fun!

We stayed 2 nights in this beautiful place. It is a great place to rest for few days. There are 3 different species of monkeys, all very nice and cute. The benefits of this campsite/lodge go to the community, to pay for the teachers.

Beautiful place. Ablutions are old and a little dirty… but the lake is amazing! Best and most exclusive crater lake in the area.
Camping area is grassy, flat and large. But there is no privacy…
Staff is friendly and there are lots of monkeys (some a bit cheeky).

Very professional 20k ugx great value for money. Support the community. Loads of monkeys but not a nuisance. Loved it and stayed 3 nights

Very nice place. Shortly after we arrived it rained heavy. The staff was very helpful and took care we could settle. Made nice coffee and food. We had a hot shower. One of the best campsites we had during our long trip. Highly recommended.

Report Check-In

Really enjoyed this place, staff so welcoming and accommodating. Basic ablutions but lovely hot water showers (donkey). Plug points in the restaurant. Cottages and rooms available too. Cottage is 30usd right by the lake. Very naughty monkeys - beware!
20000pp to camp.

Wonderful place! During Covid many places on my trip were run-down, but not this one. I was very warmly welcomed. Green, full of animals, cozy and shady. But choose your spot wisely because the sleeping colobus monkeys in the trees above do not move for their morning toilet business ;-)
Apart from pumped lake water there is also drinkable and very tasty "village water". Ask for the right tap and enjoy!

My home for the first 2 months of 7 months lockdown due to the worldwide corona crisis. They didn’t mind bringing the price down to 10.000 a night. Very nice lodge/campsite, clean, well set up, a normal toilet and donkey heated shower in the evening. The spot with the mountain view is more private as the other close to the restaurant has the staff moving around all day. Water tap close to the campsite, electricity can be used from one of the cottages. A great place to stay for my first two months in lockdown but in the end it was time to move on to a new place as I am still the guest in a lodge and there is little interaction so I moved to a more private place closeby to make my home for a while, see Art in the Jungle. Nkuruba has a beautiful lake and small forest around full of Black/White Colobus and Red Colobus, Vervet monkeys and Red Tailed monkeys.
Drinking water from one tap behind the kitchen (UNICEF water project) Recommended for sure.

We stayed here for 3 nights after driving the crater lakes and enjoyed it so much. As mentioned below, the camping with a view of the lake is not as private as the camping with the view of the Rwenzoris. I wasn't too bothered by the other travelers though. Without going anywhere there are four species of monkey hanging around the trees most of the day. The campsite is above a steep slope to the lake so ones line of sight is at a similar height to the monkeys in the trees.

The staff was friendly and helpful and even moved our washing and chairs out the rain while we were on a walk in the forest. We also swam in the lake.

The downfalls were that there was litter lying around at the top of the slope by the camping, presumably from the vervet monkeys raiding the bin. On the last day, a staff member raking the leaves picked it all up.

2020 price is now 20 000Ush.

Basic but nice and welcoming campsite with nice view over the crater lake

Report Check-In

10,000 UGX pppn for camping in vehicle.
Really nice view high up over the lake. You can park next to the restaurant/office. It was lovely and quiet up here. Toilets and shower are a little walk away but are relatively clean.
Nice grassy area and flat too.
Can also walk down a private path to the lake for a swim.

We ended up staying two nights after exploring all the craters via bike.
Really nice staff
We are at the restaurant and unfortunately didn’t rate it, lacking in flavour and no great at all.

Report Check-In

great value for money and great service (restaurant, laundry...). nice place in the nature. no specific place for camping, either in front of the cottages with view to Rwenzori mountain or in front of the dining room with view on the lake. no real intimacy with day visitors passing by but still a great nature place for these quite populated and banana dedicated craters' region.

Report Check-In

Such a nice place and cheap! 10,000 UGX ppn for camping. They have two separate camping areas: one overlooking the Nkuruba lake and another one with views to the Rwenzori Mountains. Option to wash your clothes (they have a printed price list for each item). Food from restaurant really good and cheap: big chapati with guacamole 8,000 UGX, beef stew with lots pf delicious potatoes for 18,000 UGX, fruit salad for breakfast for 5,500 UGX. Totally recommend it! If you want more privacy choose the campsite with views to Rwenzori as the lake facing one can become a bit crowded with visitors coming for the hike and for seeing the numerous vervet monkeys that won't hesitate to steal campers food.

Report Check-In

Great value for money (10000ush pp). Nice view, good hot shower (donkey)! Really cheeky monkeys when you prepare food. It was quite busy when we were there so toilet was not so clean.

Report Check-In

Very nice place, restaurant cheap and basic but good. We went swimming in the lake and saw a lot of monkeys. Very quiet environment, toilets basic but quite clean. Need a 4x4 to arrive. Quite big flat area to open the rooftop tents and a lot of shade. Also some rooms available if it rains too much.

Lovely spot, in my opinion much better than Enfuzi Camp next door. Fairly flat grassy areas to camp on the rim of a crater, short walk down to the idyllic Lake Nkuruba which is still surrounded by jungle. Lots of monkeys in camp all day, but not causing a nuisance (vervets, b&w colobus, red colobus). Ablutions relatively clean and maintained. Excellent shower, plenty of hot water. Quite popular so can get busy.
Advertised that they have WiFi, but this wasn’t available at all during our stay.
Food and drink service is pretty bad. You have to find the staff and ask for something, and then it might come an hour later. Make sure you pre-order all meals well in advance too, or you might be able to get anything.
Excellent value at UGX10,000 pppn.

Report Check-In

All as below, but have in mind that if you pitch a tent in the area next to the bar, overlooking the lake, be prepared that it’s noisy until midnight and then again people start chopping wood, driving cars and talking loudly from 6AM...

Beautiful spot! We stayed for 2 nights and did 1 one day hiking to other crater lakes. Friendly staff and a lot of people come in and out at this place for camping, sleeping in the lodges or to use the restaurant. The ablutions are not great but it's still 10.000 shilling pppn.

Report Check-In

Beautiful lake that you can swim in with lots of monkeya and birdlife. 10000 Ush pppn to camp. Helpful staff. Able to do an unguided walk through the forest. Also has a lakeside cottage.

Report Check-In

Cheap and ideal spot for the rooftent. Lots of monkeys around camp. Friendly staff, and very reasonable price to rent a mountain bike.

Report Check-In

Unlike Enfuzi Camp(next door) there's no additional "fees". Nice camp with friendly staff. Cold shower only. Breakfast was good. Many monkeys around and good base for (free) hiking.

Nice place, camping is now 10.000 shillings
