Wim’s Holland House has a camping yard and small rooms with basic facilities, not quite the same as Jungle Junction in Nairobi as far as heaps of overlanders and facilities is concerned, but has a nice bar and good food.

200 birr for a tent. Sketchy neighbourhood. Its monitored by police at night though. The lawn was ok for a pitch,

This is the closest camping to the Sudanese embassy, and is easy walking distance. That said, It was an unpleasant camping experience for us. Shortly after you drive through the gate, you're forced to straddle a yawning open unused oil changing pit. The small yard is cluttered with an undrivable vehicle and the edges lined with trash and heaps of yard waste. There are 2 friendly dogs in the yard, but you have to watch where you step because the lawn is covered in dog droppings. The dogs sleep in the day and bark ferociously much of the night. There is electricity to plug in to, but employees unplugged us multiple times a day without letting us know They also limited our access to water by turning off the pump and WiFi was very intermittent. After we set up our camp here we discovered that the Sudanese embassy has street parking available right in front of it, so there's no need to camp within walking distance. At one time Holland House was probably a pleasant place to camp, but it isn't anymore.

This place is in wrong location - it is located at 9.00997, 38.75498

Everything is said here.
Nice owner, basic but clean rooms, 200 for single room. Hot shower, drying lines...
Safe backyard, close to city.
Restaurant a bit pricy though, but lot of choices 5-10min walking.

Report Check-In

Secure camping in a locked yard 100 birr per person. Across the lane is the resturant/bar with tasty food and well priced beer. Lovely staff.

Report Check-In

great for Motorbike Traveler and all others, simple clean cheap rooms, 200 Birr Best Price ever for a room, safe parking, good Restaurant and Bar with great food, the nasi goreng is delicious and all the stuff and Manager very friendly^^

Report Check-In

This is a great place to stay in Addis. The manager Daniel is a great man and was very helpful to us. The food in the restaurant is very good. We stayed in a big room for 400 birr per night, camping was 200 birr. The amenities were very clean and worked well. We really enjoyed our stay here.

With its central location you can do a lot by foot (during day time). Mercato market is 3km and the National museum around 5 km. You can also take a cab, but they will overcharge you. Here are two taxi drivers which didn’t overcharge us, speak English and were friendly:
Teddy +251 91164 6565
Essefe +251 911 230 1503 (older man, doesn’t drive at night)

Prices for taxi to national museum is around 100 to 120 birr.

Bar/restaurant with guesthouse in the middle of the city. Rooms are small with shared toilet and shower. Abolution block is outdated and not well maintained. Price per person is 200 birr pn. Camping is also possible on the small grassy courtyard which is also being used as storage. Around 2 cars and a few tents can fit in, but no privacy then. Price camping 150 birr.

The restaurant/bar is a nice spot to have dinner or have a beer. Food is good and manager friendly. Wifi is available, but they do have a lot of power shortcuts, which is commen in Ethiopia.

Report Check-In

We were here by our camper and stayed for 2 nights. They have great restaurant/pub with great food. Chicken, steaks, pizza all was delicious. You can have a draft beer also. Wi-fi is ok comparing to ethiopian standards. The camping place is with the grass, is not big, only 3 cars can stay there I think. And you have also a place to do some checking in your car. Public toilets are not in good standard but ok. Only problem for me were really cute and friendly dogs which during the night made a lot of noise and I couldn't sleep.

Report Check-In

It's okay for camping in the city. Fenced yard is small, but you have all facilities you need. Birr 100 ppn. Sudan embassy is just a few minutes walking.

Report Check-In

Probably best place to stay in Etiopia for overlanders. Rooms are basic but good value for price. 2 in the room for 250 birr and 200 for single occupancy. Good food but slighty higher price. Internet in restaurant area and more expensive price. The guy running place is wonderful and helpful. Place is fenced off you can park 3-4 rigs, lots of motorcycles and there is a space for barbeque. Also pit for repairs. You can leave your vehicle for extended period of time. Hotel is located in sort of city center.

nice and peaceful place. rooms are tinybut clean. we stayed in a one with shared bathroom, 300birr for 2 ppl. There is also a bigger room with private bath for 400birr, which was too much for us also. no wifi in the rooms only in restaurant. restaurant is very good but a bit expensive too. The neighbourhood is so so, lots of stoned kids and beggars just round the corner on tge main road, in the evenings police is doing frisk searches there.

Awesome place to stay, hot water,
Wifi, food, etc

The Compound is located directly in the City Center. There are two Areas divided by a Gravel Road. On the one Side there is the main Area with Bar, Restaurant and some Rooms. On the other Side of the Road there is a Garden with Green Grass (the Place to Camp in your Car or pitch a Tent), a Pit for Car Maintenance and also some small Rooms. The two Areas are facing another you just walk the 5m across the Road. We took the biggest Room available for 350 Birr per Night including private Bathroom (other Rooms and Camping share the Ablutions). The Room was good. Water Problem seems solved, we always had running Water everywhere. But only the Shared Showers were warm. The Restaurant and Bar are awesome. We ate there several Times and it was always very good (very good Sausage with Potatoe Salad, good Steak with Potatoes, good Pizza, good Pasta...). In they Evenings we were hanging around at the Bar with other Travelers and enjoyed the cold Draught Beer. Free WiFi (average Speed). We met a lot of other Overlanders here who camped in their Cars or slept in their Tents in the Garden. Owner Rahel was very friendly and helpful, she can also change Money. We liked this Place very much and stayed several days. Quite, relaxed Overlander Atmosphere.

Report Check-In

It’s great! Good WiFi. Kind people.

Report Check-In

We were able to camp for Br.115,- per night or have a small room for Br.175,- per night; we took the room because it was raining alot.

There 's a waterpump and a boiler(don't know if it was there before) now so everytime there's no water or we wanted to take a shower we put the pump on and it was great!

Restaurant looks like a Dutch pub and we found the french fries indeed expensive but the WIFI was working(only a few hours without), for whatsapp to work we had to download VPN.

Facilities are very basic but clean.
Field to camp on had a lot of dogpoo so not advisable.

It seems the prices tend to change alot.

Report Check-In

Nice place to stay when your in Addis! We camped for 175 birr p.n. The water is unfortunately still an issue but we've had a hot shower daily. The food is good and Rahel is really helpful. There's a pit which is great if you want to do some maintenance on your car. Hard to find due to the construction work but call Rahel or ask for it around the station and someone will walk you there for a few Birr.

Report Check-In

Great stay while we waited for our Egyptian and Sudanese visas, great food, wonderful stalk. don't let the roadworks stop you coming here, Rachel will meet you at the bus station nearby. water an issue ... but available and well worth the sacrifice

Report Check-In

We stayed a couple of night with our truck with pop up roof. Basic facilities, cold shower and indeed sometimes no water for flushing but jerrycans with water.

We enjoyed the food and beers in the restaurant (local and Dutch food). Perfectly located for the Sudanese Embassy and traffic to Egyptian Embassy is not bad.

All in all a nice stay and good location!

Report Check-In

It is officially not allowed to do camping here but we could stay as we are Dutch and promised not to tell anyone ( e.g. like at immigration or embassies). And during day time close the rooftent so it is less visible. Unfortunately there are still water problems but the food is great and it is right in center of town. Internet was not working maybe because there was a conference of the African union going on but after few days it was ok except for facebook and whattsapp

Report Check-In

Rahel is really nice and welcoming. Unfortunately her husband died and she's now running the Holland house alone. She's not taking guests right now because the accommodation part is under maintenance. She told us that in 2-3 months it will be ready, water will be running again, and she will lunch a website. The restaurant is reaaally great though and the beer and food(both typical Ethiopian and typical Dutch food and beer) delicious. But due to road construction it was hard to find. Keep up the good work!

Report Check-In

The now have no water at all here and were turning away all guests.

Report Check-In

Went to stay here tonight and sadly they aren't taking any guests right now due to the water problems
Restaurant and bar looked great so when it's back up and running I think it will be a great place to stay

Report Check-In

Dispite earlier reports, Rahel still allows camping here, but there is place for a few cars only. Not sure how she feels about putting up tents and such, but a rooftent or sleeping in your car is no problem.
The lack of water is because of construction work further down the street but it is going on for a year now! Still, there are more than happy to provide you with buckets of cold or warm water. The food is excellent and I'm not just saying that because I'm Dutch. ;-)
It is an amazingly quiet place considering its central location.

Report Check-In

Seems that Camping in your own car is not allowed any more. We could stay for one night because we arrived late. Next day they told us we could stay longer- a little bit funny... No running water, no shower, no wifi. Restaurant nice, but European prices (e.g. French Fries 2,5€ for one portion).

Report Check-In

We pulled into Wims while waiting for our bikes to clear customs. We stayed here for a total of over 7 days. We loved that Wims is in the middle of town and walking distance from most places, but that the town noise does not carry here at night. Although Wim sadly passed away, the place is run by Rahel. She is very friendly and goes out of her way to organise you SIM cards, taxi's or anything else you may need. We didn't have much running water here and regularly had to wash ourselves using a bucket and kitchen water. The room was clean and the food in the restaurant very good (but expensive by Ethiopian standards). There is a security guard here too. It cost us 280 Bir per night (discounted 20 for the lack of running water). There is no wifi here and although Rahel offered us her dongle, it would not work. The closest internet is at the Ras Hotel - a 15 min walk down the road and costs 28Bir per hour per item. Great Dutch food here and beer! Worth a visit but come to chill, not to work.

Report Check-In

Good, quiet and safe location and friendly staff. It's close to Meskel Square from where the busses leave all around the country.
Camping is unfortunately not allowed anymore. And there was no running water when I was there. You could ask for a bucket of hot water for showering.
The restaurant has good food and beer at reasonable prices.

Report Check-In

Don't expect something similar to JJ's in Nairobi. This place is just good for one night, no more.
Good thing is the bar/restaurant, not too expensive and good.
No WiFi

Report Check-In

Wim’s Holland House has unfortunately lost it’s adjoining camping yard to a property developer and is not quite the same as Jungle Junction in Nairobi as far as heaps of overlanders and facilities is concerned, but has a nice bar and good food. A bit of a disappointment really

Wims Holland House has always been the must go to place for overlanders in Addis. Since Wim's passing Rahel his wife has taken over and still doing a great job. They have lost a portion of their campsite due to bureaucracy nonsense but it's still a very nice place with good food and nice people.

Report Check-In

The best overland must stop in Ethiopia and Addis Ababa. Rahel the owner is running the place after Wim passed away. There are rooms to let or camping on the grounds and a restaurant.
