Namibia
Very good campsite with almost new ablutions, spotlessly kept by the friendly Damara lady running the place. Duwasib Castle is an amazing construction in a remote valley with its own rather sad and bizarre tale.
NWR Campsite, not operational right now; according to the guarding it „should reopen soon“ … (same for the hotel in the castle …) Entrance and visit to the castle is possible if and when the guardian feels like being present (if you stay at neighboring Duwisib Guestfarm they can help you getting him); fee to visit together with a short tour and explanations is N$70pp … in our opinion go and see what a crazy idea and a lot of money managed to create in the desert some 113 years ago …
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Duwisib Castle is managed by Namibian Wildlife Resorts. The "guide" is more interesting begging for meat than giving a perceived 5 minute tour. Receipts for the entrance are not issued - interesting...Still worthwhile especially if you combine it with a camping site at the Duwisib Farm, walking distance form the castle.
Report Check-InNice campsite. Good ablutions opposite camp 1 and 2. Power and water available at campsite.
Report Check-InIt was open. The owner of the camping next to can help to find the caretaker. It costs 80pp, depending on your budget it's worth it.
Report Check-InPitty the castle was closed! Beautiful to see the castle from outside pitty we not seeing the inside of the castle
Report Check-InWhen we arrived we waited for about 15 minutes - walking around. Then the caretaker came from his house and gave us a tour. For internationals its 70$ pP. So If you want to go inside, its worth waiting a little bit 😉.
We went for a coffee to the neighbouring guestfarm and had a interesting chat with the owner ☕.
Report Check-InThe campsite is closed at the castle but the neighboring guestfarm is open. The castle is open for day visitors, 60N$ per person. Very friendly tour guide. Tour guide mentioned that accommodation in the castle is being renovated and should reopen later this year. Looks like very nice rooms through the window.
Report Check-InCampsites are directly underneath the castle. They looked in usable condition but we couldn’t find anyone. The campsite by the guest farm seems operational. The castle itself was closed. Very sad because if you peak inside it really is something special. Medival castle on the outside and Roman style inside with verandas all around a small pool and lush trees that now have outgrown the castle walls. Still worth a visit and hopefully opened to the public again. Looking at you NWR.

Report Check-Ina beautiful spot. R 150 pp per night.
lovely short hike up mountain to watch the sunset, very friendly owners and you can go visit the castle
Closed because of Covid-19 until further notice.... The castle isn't worth the detour!
Report Check-InThe Castle was very impressive to see. The camp site is clean with shade at the stands. The ablutions aren't very clean and there was no hot water.
Report Check-Inwell... attraction maybe for children. Castle is from year 1909. You cannot even have a coffee without paying entrance fee.
Report Check-In135N$ per person per night. Basic camp site. Facilities ok. Castle in walking distance. 60 for SADC, 70 for international
Report Check-InNice place. Pitches under beautiful, large, shady trees. Braai, picnic table and sink with tap at each pitch. Well maintained ablutions. Great sunset. Castle access included in campsite fee. Castle is not spectacular but funny in this environment.
