Spacious site near the road but tucked away. There's a sign down indicating no motor vehicles up to the hill (leading to the old 2nd site). We're planning to check out the view by foot, though.
Report Check-InGreat spot off the road. Old logging site. Law enforcement came by and said it was cool to camp. But no fires allowed in the black hills. He asked us to break up the pit that was left there. Quiet and close to Custer
Report Check-Inthe accurate description of this place is incredible it is a beautiful beautiful place with a rock fireplace and a beautiful view of the mountains but you do need a capable vehicle to climb the rutted hill
Report Check-Invery nice and quiet spot, stayed downhill because out van is not 4x4. went uphill by foot for the sunset
Report Check-InWe are camping up the dirt path from the open grass space. There was already someone there. At the top of the hill you get a great view. It is very quiet up here. There is a spot where someone had a fire but there is no ring. Great spot and some cell service.
Report Check-Innice grass area. we were the only ones staying there. just a little road noice at nice due to some car racing at night. We saw some deer and would stay again.
Report Check-InGood location close to Sylvan Lake. The grass area isn’t huge - there was one other camper there the same night and there would have only been room for maybe one more, but it would have been tight. Very quiet at night.
Report Check-InDrove the needles highway in our Promaster. Epic drive, a lot of fun going through the tunnels. Width is a bit tight but there is clearance on both sides for all three tunnels. We hiked to the top of Black Elk Peak, the highest point east of the Rockies. Started at the trail head around 5:30 and made it back to the van around 8:30 just in time to catch a beautiful sunset. The parking lot at Slyvan lake was empty at this point and we didnt have to deal with any traffic at all leaving. Pulled into this spot around 9:30 and had it all to ourselves. There was a fire ring and didnt hear any cars on the road all night.
Report Check-InEasy last minute over night spot. Was dark and not too bad but you will might need to do some light leveling with a big rig. Might get really wet and muddy after rain. We were alone and it was silent and pitch dark. Felt remote eventho it is located a next to the road.
Report Check-InPull into the first grassy area, Room to turn around, there is a fire ring. A large rig could fit, but we tent. Close to the road but it gets quiet after dark. If you have a large all wheel drive vehicle you will be able to continue up the road to another lovely clearing however it is very rutted and there is no place to turn around midway. Leave no trace.
