Description

*Overnight parking/camping is NOT available at this location.

Moderator Note: Road may be impassable in the winter.
-----------------------------
Right off I90, take Hyak exit. A bunch of places during summer to camp with tent or RV when water is low. Spring and fall, it can still be used but may need to park near boat launch and is not accessible during winter snow months. Lots of freeway noise but an easy and scenic place. Gas station and restaurants/lodging at Snoqualmie Pass. Next few exits east have lots of forest service roads with opportunity to camp and an official campground at Kachess Lake.

This area is closed until further notice, by US forest service action as of July 2023. Specifically, "Use of Motorized Vehicles off National Forest System Roads is Prohibited within the closure area, in and adjacent to the Lake Keechelus". (You can find the order by searching for "Keechelus Lake closure".)

Got to the gate and the gate was locked and closed . Had to find a new spot.

I'm curious. Many people say you can drive onto Keechelus lake bed when water is low, but the state website says this is forbidden. Which is it?

Probably 25 rigs out here camping on 4th of July weekend. The lake level is low enough that you can pull up by the lake and camp. Very pretty! I would come back on a less busy day.

Report Check-In

Nice place to camp. Would recommend for a relatively quite overnight stay.

Report Check-In

Really beautiful lake view plenty of dispersed camping, lots of 4x4 guys on the weekend, and if it’s windy there’s plenty of kiteboarders to watch. Highly recommend. There’s a lot toilet up by the road too

Report Check-In

Tried to go to this place and the lake water is really high. There’s no lake bed to camp at. And there’s no overnight parking allowed in the boat dock area. It looks like it was a great spot back in 2018 but definitely not a place that you can camp at today.

Report Check-In

No overnight camping signs posted. Good views though

Report Check-In

Road is inaccessible in winter even with 4wd

Report Check-In

just an update. location is still open and good, just as other reviewers have stated. Good cell service.

Report Check-In

Very beautiful and, despite some road noise & light (which is minimal), it’s quiet and relaxing. There are people around but pretty far away from each other so things are still pretty mellow.

Great spot! 3 bars with Verizon. Lots of people here in July on Thursday night, but still got a spot on the lake. Level. Fit our 45’ skoolie. I think the previous pictures were taken when lake water was down more, but it’s still just as nice IMO.

Report Check-In

Many open spots and a handful of primitive fire pits. Streams and ravines cross cross the area so be familiar with your vehicles capabilities. Spent 20 minutes pulling a 4Runner out of a muddy ravine. Note that this area is frequented by vehicles playing in the mud. So, there’s a bit of noise.

Great place in the summer!
But as of right now, end of April the road is still covered in thick snow and inaccessible.

Report Check-In

Tons of space! The lake is really low so there is also tons of space in the dry part of the lake bed. It’s pretty dusty, but literally surrounded by mountains and lush forests for amazing views, and probably some trails for hiking / exploring. Lots of other campers here this weekend, but I was able to find a space far enough from everyone so that I couldn’t hear anyone else, even though I could see them. Not far off the freeway so you get a tiny bit of freeway noise.. but not bad at all. Had 2-3 bars LTE on both Verizon and T-mobile. (Enough to stream videos!). I cleaned up some cans and a bit of other trash left behind around my area... but it was actually pretty clean considering it appears to be a popular camping area. Please practice LNT principles!

Report Check-In

This is a beautiful spot. A number of other campers are here so you know it’s good.

Report Check-In

Good place for camping and not being too crowded. Did have mice break into my van though, so be careful.

Report Check-In

continue through the first parking lot through the smaller road to find some dirt spots by the water

Report Check-In

We parked by the trail head, we were the only vehicle here, lots of room for RVs etc. There are no signs of any kind.

Report Check-In

Cool/open spot with a lot of space for multiple vehicles. The access road is paved until you pull in. We came in late September and the lake was very low so we parked on the boat launch. Pit toilets available at a nearby trailhead. Verizon & AT&T service work!
