Description

*Seasonal closures??
.....
This is about the best FREE campground you will find. There are roughly 30 spots spread out, all bordering the lake with a beautiful view.
Each campsite has a clean concrete picnic table, rock-bordered fire pit, trash can, plenty of shade and sun.
There is a dedicated swimming area and the water of the lake is fairly warm!
The campground also has a sanitary block with toilets and hot showers! Unsure if the water there is potable or not but there is running water.
The stay limit is 14 days.

Gated off with sign saying campground closed for maintenance. Bathrooms locked. No indication when it reopens

Report Check-In

it was open and plenty of space. they had rv, tent, other car camping. it was really nice lake view and everyone was great. I believe it was free. there is a sign that says $22, but no one collected and no where to put. Google reviews says it was free. will be back.

absolutely gorgeous spot and campground! it was still closed when we visited (may 2023) and when we called they didn't know when it would be opening for the season. we spent the night at the boat dock for two nights and there were flat enough spots to park. there is another free campground nearby called Jackson's Island that should be open, recommended by a local guy. the number I called to check if the campground was the one I found on the Google listing!

Arrived at the campground at 8pm to find the gate closed. Do not rely on this site We read many reviews- some said it was great and they stayed here 2 weeks, others had the same problem we did.

We ended up boondocking in the flat clearing just outside the gate.

Gate locked “Closed for maintenance” on 9/13/22

This place is great! Not often we get to free c,qqmzmamp right on the shores of a lake. Sites have concrete tables. trash cans, and fire pits. There's swimming area but most everyone is just swimming wherever they please which is great. Running water, flushing toilets. 4 bars Verizon. Highly recommend

Boat ramp next to campground open. Campground closed "for maintenance" but no evidence of maintenance activity. Called the county (from official website) and inquired about the "maintenance". They didn't know anything about what kind of maintenance or when it wouldn't be closed. Lady said they try to get it open for weekend use. (My guess? The closure is a cost-saving measure or lack of employees to keep up with maintenance so easier to just close the campgrounds most of the week.) Photos of campground and Rhea Springs taken from the boat ramp next door (excuse the pink, my cell case cover got in the way)

Drove through it was mostly homeless people living there longish term. Very little privacy lots of sites close together. Sketched me and my friend out and we Decided to camp across the lake at Jackson island instead

spacious very nice campsites. plenty to choose from on Saturday night. beautiful lake views. clean comfortable, gonna stay a second night just because it is quite well kept compared to a BLM turnout. not to mention a trash bin picnic table and fire ring at each site.

Report Check-In

Nice Campground, spacious, good Verizon signal, hot & cold showers, flush toilets, table, trash can, and fire ring at each site. Sites are not level. 14 day max stay. Located on Watts Barr Dam Reservoir.

Beautiful sunsets!!! Too many people for our preferred type of camping, inconsiderate campers up early hammering on things, yelling late into the night. It was a Sunday so we didn’t think there would be many people but there were lots. Hot showers were why we chose this place though and it was nice to get that.

The Place was closed for Winter, would be a great Camp!
