Great access to the Gulf of Mexico. Somewhat crowded. The signage says no pets, but it is not enforced, and most campers here seem to have dogs with them. Must bring your own supplies, including drinking water. Tent spots are $10/night. RV and or tent using electricity are $20 per night.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Shired Island is open but destroyed by a Hurricane 🌀. No power and 90% of the overhead structures are gone.
Report Check-InYou have to be REALLY lucky to score this spot - and it’s quite a ways out of the way for 99% chance you’re a shoulder widths away from the next person. I made it a point to get here at 1-2 pm on a MONDAY to increase my chances of at least a corner spot, but there still was only ONE spot left and it was maybe 10ft wide crammed between two massive RVs with generators screaming and AC cranking.
It’s definitely the best beach camping option you’ll find but you couldn’t pay me to stay here. It’s like European camping but without the friendliness and rigs twice the size….
Report Check-InStop, walk the beach, and move on. The bathrooms are so disgusting you can’t even go in. It is $20 no matter what you’re driving or if plug in or not. No debating with the attendant who has a gun clearly placed in the passenger seat. Pick up trucks doing donuts on the sand dunes and partying until 1am. Just not worth $20.
The beach is beautiful but not worth staying the night.
Update: dogs allowed on one side and prohibited on the other but not really enforced.
Report Check-InAmazing spot if you ignore the bathrooms, but they're better than nothing, just.
This is all about location, location, location.
There were a lot of people here last night, but most have left, it being Sunday. I imagine like most places, during the week will be pretty quiet, in winter at least.
There is a guy who comes each morning about 7:30-8 to take payment for camping, cash only. If you have a pup be sure to keep them inside until he has gone, just to be safe.
Report Check-InNice place, locals regular. Foul water at the tap. Great dolphin shows in the early a.m. . Cost is 10 bucks on the night and the old timer 'Herb' checks in around 8 a.m. and is full of great tales and history about the area.
Report Check-InAs others have said: water is swampy and very smelly. There is a sign saying it’s jot drinkable. Closest store is 20 miles away so bring everything. A bit crowded with families and kids who scream a lot! But their kids. Many folks with dogs. Says no alcohol but people ignore it. There are showers but not sure anyone would want to shower with swamp smelly water... there is a pier from the end of which I get one bar with T-Mobile otherwise no connection. All in all an acceptable place to camp for one or two nights. A “bill collector” comes every morning and gets your money. $10 for tents $20 for RVs.
Report Check-InGreat little place right on the Gulf if you don't mind being close to your neighbors. The water here is swampy so be sure to bring your own. Bathroom leaves a lot to be desired. There is a shower that is not very private but who wants to shower in smelly water?
Report Check-InUnbelievable sunset views!!
Same price for RV or Tent, $10 primitive or $20 with electric. We got electric because its 1 celcius outside
There’s running water but it’s really swampy, bring your own potable water. No reservations, first come first serve
Bathrooms are fine... just stay here for the views!
Report Check-InBeautiful place to camp. Not much to do there beside kayaking, boating, and fishing. Stargazing was amazing
Report Check-InVery nice right on the gulf. Great views and sunsets. Power, covered tables and restrooms. Water not for drinking. 10.00 for tents 20.00 rigs. Popular.
Report Check-InPerfect place for staying right near the beach sundowner is amazing
No portable water!!!! Dumping is ok
