Description

Jordan to Israel

Takes some time but no problems. Drive to customs they will shortly check your car. You have to pay 25JD exit feet for the car. You will get an exit pass. After customs go to immigration and pay 10JD exit fee per person. Now you get the stamp in your passport.

Drive to the bridge and show all your exit documents at the gate.

Arriving in Israel they will check your passport and car just shortly and you have to wait. They tell you when you can continue to immigration. There you show your passport and they will ask some questions (not too bad even with Saudi and Sudan etc visa).
Continue to customs where they will search your car completely and I had to bring nearly everything to the xray. After that you get insurance or translate your insurance and you can leave with your gate pass.

Jordan to Israel with a MAN truck camper on a Sunday - start at 11:30, lasted 4 hours (we think it went quick because few people and no commercial trucks)
All very friendly people on both sides and well organized (always people available to explain kindly the next step).
Jordan - need to pay 10 jod pp (including children). And visa we were not asked at the Aqaba boarder… (40 jod pp). The tax for the truck also is 25 jod.
We had to open three times our home :)

Entry in israel : nothing to pay but insurance or the truck which we could pay in US dollars
129 for three days !!!!!!!!!!! No choice. Do not know if same price for one full week.
Scan of our hand luggage for us
and the vehicle went to special x ray for trucks and was checked. But not so intensively as written for other people on iOverlander. For example did not need to remove all our stuff.

Crossed Jordan to Israel. Total time 4 hours.

Jordan, one hour, first stop is building to stamp out Insurance and pay 25 JD exit tax for vehicle. Few more customs checks for vehicle insurance and permit (blue vehicle permit given to us upon entry). Car inspection (more comprehensive than most, we had to open all our lockboxes and tool bags). At immigration it was pointed out that we did not have visas (not issued to us upon entry, it seems that they charge upon exit), but luckily visa fee of 40 JD included in the Jordan Passes we had purchased so no extra charges there. We did have to pay 10 JD exit fee per person. We had dinars so paid all fees in cash. Organized process and officials.helpful in pointing you onto the next step.

Israel, three hours, organized but very, very slow. Most comprehensive search we have experienced in 75 countries. We had to remove everything from the camper and carry it to a security scanner, (food, supplies, clothes, pillows) then re-pack. No charge for 3 month visa (US Passports). No charge for vehicle permit. We did have to purchase insurance at Customs as our regular insurer does not cover Israel. Very expensive at $161 for two weeks.

Easier than anticipated I was travelling though with a motorcycle from Jordan. Due to a puncture I didn’t arrive until 215pm. Jordan side there’s was two police checks, baggage off and through the X-ray and onto customs. Carnet stamped out and an extra charge of 15jd on top of the 25jd for leaving a day late. Onto passport control 10JD and through. Israel side was seamless waited in a hold for a while passport was checked a couple of times. Then on to immigration, lots of questions then onto X-ray and bike search. While that was happening I was able to get insurance £250 for 1 month and customs clearance for the bike, no carnet required 1 month stay. All in all was though to 2 1/2 hours, all with a flat tyre

Yesterday we also entered the last country of our current trip: ISRAEL.

For a long time we didn't know how far we would get and Israel too was not clear. Once again there were a wide variety of information. So always the same learning: Only believe what you have experienced yourself ;-)

Two important things:

1. Don't be put off by the first checkpoint in Jordan. They say it is not possible and only with a visa in the passport from the Israeli embassy in Amman (they seem not to know about visa on arrival for various nationalities like Germans). That's nonsense. After endless discussions and our insistence that this should be clarified, the policeman sends pictures of the documents (passports, PCR test, ...) to the Israeli side. After 2 hours of waiting, we got the GO.

Then comes the "normal" border.
Jordan: There is nothing special here - business as usual, just high exit fees.
Israel: The car inspection is very intensive, luckily it was still ok with us because they were completely blown away to have an Overlander there again for such a long time. Every compartment inside was opened, but none outside. Took maybe 30 minutes in total. And not like many others said - 4 h. And then there was Xray and a vehicle inspection. You get a small printout as a visa, no stamp in the passport. And ofc you have to do a new PCR test.

2. Carnet is not accepted and they will not stamp it. So they issue a TIP, which also takes quite a long time, because they simply don't have practice any more.

All in all it was very professional and very kind!

Just to add the costs for the obligatory insurance in JD:
27 motorbike
36 car
92 Pickup, van etc.
100 Caravan, motorhome
We have a Pickup with a cabin and needed to pay 92 JD, there was no way to persuade them to just pay for a car.

Enter in jordan by motorbike:

In Israel people probably tell you is not possible enter in jordan by motorbike. Totally false ( maybe some years ago, not now).

ISRAËL > JORDAN
Arrived at Isreal checkpoint, all fairly easy to leave compared to arriving.
1. Pay passenger fee 101 shekel per person and 5 shekel admin fee.
2. Hand in your TIP at the customs office.
3. Get your checkout pass at passport control.
With the receipts from all stops you can go to the final gate and leave.

Entering Jordan
Very friendly welcome.
1. Get your visa at immigration, if you have a Jordan Pass (which I highly recommend) you will receive a free visa. All very organized and easy.
2. Go to customs and check in the vehicle. We were told it is not possible to enter without a carnet (Triptik).
3. Get Jordanian insurance, 1 month for 1 motorcycle was 27,5 JOD.
4. Get the carnet stamped and pay the customs fee of 20 JOD per motorcycle.
