Botswana
From the park turn left at Goha gate for 7 km and turn right towards Kasane, much better and easier road, still very sandy though but the guides recommended this road rather to the one straight out.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Used the road via Thobolo‘s lodge and it was a very easy drive. If you do the turn it’s a hard sand piste. Best way from/to Goha Gate, didn’t even need to deflate our tires (driving a Mitsubishi van 4x4).
Report Check-InStill the preferred option. Let the tires down and had no problem whatsoever. Didn‘t need low gear.
Also note that a tour guide advised, that you can also use the small detour to Thobolo‘s Bush Lodge (sign posted in both directions) to avoid the patches with the deepest sand
Report Check-Indefinitely the better option instead of direct route from Ghoha, which is very andy and bumpy
Report Check-InWe did this road in the afternoon.
It is very deep sand about 50 km up to Kachikau. Low gear necessary.
This is still the advised road between Goha gate and Kasane; the more direct one is the old one.
Report Check-Intour operators recommend and also take that road. you can go 40 to 50 km/h in some places. it is just around 10 km longer than the straight road. No low gear necessary
Report Check-InCurrently, the dogleg road is driving very well. Did not need low range at all. Coming from Kasane, there is no dogleg, you basically go straight.
Report Check-InGo through this point if heading Kasane-Ghoha gate or vice versa. All the locals recommend this route vs the straighter one. The road is bad, very sandy, apparently better in the mornings when the sand isn't as dry.
