Description

It was hard to find signs and information about the location of the famous Moche Huacas, so here... The description in guidebooks includes some warnings about the safety in nearby ruins but we found this site to be well organized and guarded. Paid 10 S per person and now waiting for our guide to show up (included in the ticket and obligatory).
There are signs now (2019) and the road is plastered, very rare in Peru. Guide still mandatory and free. Howerver a lot of Peruvians seem to be
allowed unguided in the site. Guide mandatory for tourists only...

Latest Check-Ins

We arrived first thing at 9:00 am thinking it was going to be really busy because it was a Saturday but it was actually very quiet. They told us the English speaking tour would be at 10:00, so we decided to pay the extra to see the museum while we waited. We ended up being the only people on the tour. Our guide was excellent and took the time to explain everything in detail. Our tour was one hour. The site is really interesting and definitely worth a stop.

Both the site and the museum is closed on Mondays. Not possible to visit Chan Chan either on Mondays.

Museum closes at 2pm, so we didn't visit...
We've only visited the archeological site with a French speaking guide for 10soles. Very interesting, one of our best site in Peru.

We loved the museum and the Archeological site. Most signs are in English and Spanish in the museum. We would recommend at least an hour at the museum and 1.5 hours at the site. Tours leave the site every hour. Last tour start at 15h05.

Before you get here you need the Tickets. They sell them at the Museum Huacas de moche (on the opposite). Nice archaeological site. We paid 15 Sol per Person for Huaca de la Luna including guide. Also included was the Museum Huacas de moche. Much more authentic than Chan Chan.

One of our favorite pre-hispanic sites. No, you can't take pictures in the museum, but to us it was still worth it. The ticket for Huaca de la Luna includes a guide, and ours was incredible. We learned so much and it was pretty impressive. We highly recommend!

Report Check-In

Huaca de la Luna pyramid site and museum. Possibly do site first if they will let you. The museum has marked where they found every piece. Contains some ceramics, bones, carvings, etc. No photos in museum. The site still has colors and you get a free guide in English or Spanish (Enith is awesome) . Free to take photos. We were worried it would be windy and gritty, but there are wind breaks for the tourist trail.

Report Check-In

Well, if you want to visit the site you pay 10 soles per person, if you want to see the ceramics they excavated here you have to pay another 5 soles. But in the museum you are NOT allowed to take photos, nor with, neither without flash. The information is not published at the ticket shop because the project manager Ricardo Morales does not want to give visitors this information before they buy tickets. We returned our tickets after being told no photos here. Of course the project manager was not available for an interview. So if you want to make photos just skip the museum, total rip off. The huaca however is worth a visit.

entry fee for the museum 5 Soles pP and 10 Soles pP for the guided (obligatory) tour through the Huaca de la Luna; both are well worth the fee;
many well-preserved found ceramic and gold artworks in the Museum with exactly description of the finding position in the tombs; many colored reliefs at the walls in the multiple overbuilded big Huaca ruins;
