Description

ADMIN NOTE: You have to be self-contained, that means your own toilet and you pack out what you pack in.

ALL Dogs must be on a leash and please pickup and pack out your dogs' poop.

No garbage cans on location. Again pack in pack out.

Two-day maximum stay. If you stay two days in a thirty day period you’ll be asked not to return for thirty days.

If there is limited room for boaters RVs will be asked to park closer together or in extreme cases asked to leave.

There are Regular checks at the boat launch.

It is unfortunate that we have had to put these guidelines in place but the community area was being abused by a few.

Nice level parking lot beside the water but please park at north end past the ‘parking for boat trailers only’ sign. Have stayed here often and never had a problem.

Great little spot for the night! We were the only ones here and the highway was super quiet after 9. Wouldn’t have mattered though before a wind storm blew through which drown out any other noise. Contributed to the donation box and appreciate being able to stay here without worry of the knock. Parking lot needs repair, but hey, it’s still an awesome spot.

Stayed here for one night. We arrived around 11am and at 6pm someone came and told us about the campsite rules (basic rules such as no dumping) and reminded us the position of the donation box. Being near to a fire station, we had the chance to testify that the fire truck is perfectly functional. Next morning we discovered that someone threw a whole bunch of rotten apples. I understand all the donation system but as you can see the parking lot is not at all in a good state and offers nearly any service except for a little trash bin. Plus is frequently visited by dogs and dog owners which is why you can find some dog poop here and there.

Nice place you can see sunrise. Night calms. Twos nights maximum. Donation box.

Great view. Quiet at night. A friendly member of the club came up to made sure we know the rules. We left 5$ in the donation box

What a great place to stay a couple days. Some very simple common sense rules. A gentleman approached to ask if I had seen the IOverlander posting about the stop. There is a donation box over by the boat launch. Well worth throwing in a few bucks to keep the place still accessible.

pleasant stay here at the boat ramp. our dog loved the beach access for walks. saw a bald eagle. there is a porta potty here but be self contained if you come here.

I am From the Union Bay Community Club and the primary person who greats travellers stopping at the boat launch. Reading Bart Sampson comments of 2022-10-18 I was very disappointed with his experience. During that time I was myself travelling the western US and another member of the club was filling in for me. I will make enquiries about who this was.

About our policy on toilet facilities required on units stopping over night. During the pandemic there was no portable toilet available due to provincial health regulations. What we discovered was some travellers were using the walking trail near by as an open toilet. As well there were several people emptying makeshift toilets into the shoreline. At that point we added to our guidelines that persons stopping overnight need to have a proper toilet onboard.
The person you dealt with should have dealt with this in a more delicate manner and I sincerely apologize for their insensitivity.

When we politely ask someone without an onboard toilet we point out several nearby places. One at a provincial rest stop 3km south of Union Bay. Another area is again south of Union Bay is opposite the Buckley Bay Ferry between highways 19 & 19A. As for the Cook Creek site. I for one am very careful about recommending that area and am very specific about what area is safe up there. You should have been told the correct route. When you turn west up to the T to the right is an unhoused encampment that many people have had similar experiences as you. To the left is the crown land and forestry road you should have been directed to.

In closing I apologize for you and your partner being put in danger and the indelicate manner you were greeted. I will pass your comments on to the club president and members as a teachable moment.

Great spot for 1 or 2 nights as the other comments absolve.
The boat ramp coordinator came and chatted in the morning. He was super nice and gave us the lay of the land.

Quiet through the night

Donation box at the entrance “camping fee”

Easy place. Chill. A bit of road noise, but it's not too bad, and the view over the water is nice. Got door knocked at about 10:30am by a friendly dude from the community organization who just wanted to go over the rules leaflet.
Told him that I got in late last night (Sunday) and planned to leave early Wednesday morning. He told me that'd be fine.

Definitely appreciate the community for making this available.

Where to start.

Bigger dude with glasses and red car came up.

Super rude and creepy.

Profiled us and Made a joke about s@#$ing into a mayonnaise jar...

Then directed us up onto crown land called Cook creek where my wife was attacked and a fore bottle was thrown at our camper van..

What a disgrace. Don't go here.

Very nice spot for a night to crash. Noises from the road but gets quiet at night. Few other campers with us, all around a good stay. Thank you for making this available to us all.

great location, thanks for allowing a couple of nights here very much appreciated

We stayed here one night. Arrived at dark. One other car on this nice place along the highway. Quiet at night. A pit toilet is available now. Do not know if the ‘toilet rule’ is still kept alive.

Report Check-In

Even though it is raining, this is a nice enough place to stay and convenient. Thank you for allowing this as an option.

Report Check-In

Nice spot by the water. Traffic wasn’t bad a night, slept nicely 👍🏼

Report Check-In

Nice place, directly by the water and pretty quiet at night. There’s a good working shaw go. A friendly guy came by in the evening to say hi and check if we are self-contained. He also told us some guidelines (they are all written in the admin note). They ask for 5$ donation which can be left in a box down by the boat launch. Max stay of 2 nights in a 30 day period. “Check out” time is 11am.

With respect to the Union Bay Boat Launch,

If you don’t have a working toilet you will be asked to leave. The community is tired of travellers using our shoreline as an open latrine.

Dogs must be on a leash and please pickup and pack out your dogs poop.

No garbage cans on location. Again pack in pack out.

Two day maximum stay.

Great place to stop while passing through. Probably wouldn’t spend more than one night but relatively quiet. 4 other campers next to us.

Report Check-In

This place is not closed and there are no signs saying ‘no camping’. We live in the area and often stay here. Level parking lot next to the water with a great view. Please park north of the signs that say boat trailer parking only.

Nice spot, there is a nice walk on the beach. Close from the road but quiet at night.

Large pullout next to 19A. No signs regarding parking overnight. Just off the main road however, but view is great.
