Description

From here in the direction of SL National Park: about 10km very tough rocky off road driving. I did it the other way around, broke a leaf spring and took me 2 hours for 10km. Between Chifungwe and Mfuwe gate: easy track with some sandy parts and some water crossings. Wet season impassable. Drive safely!

we drove from north to south, thnx to late rainy season we got through. Technical and slow terrain. I loved it with the LaRo defender. Used low gear every now and than.

The tough section is when you drive up/down the escarpment. The difficult sections are less than 10km total.
We were travelling South to North, so we went UP the escarpment. Somehow, we managed to complete it 2up on a fully loaded R1200GSA! We dropped the bike a few times and the pillion had to walk a few sections, but we did most of it 2up. Certainly very difficult riding in some parts, but overall it took us an hour or two only. It was dry when we did it. Also, some small sections, such as a few corners, are now actually concreted (sort of) which helps - although most parts have large loose rocks/stones.

BUT if you do this on a bike, you cannot ride the 05 Route through the national park - you will have to ride around the edge of the park through the village of Nabwalya, then cross through the South Luangwa River - this track is very very difficult on a heavy bike due to deep sand, a lot of stones, and big 4x4 ruts. We will make a separate pin on the route with more details.

The river crossing is now sandbagged so fairly straight forward. Take your time on this road and the advice of the previous comments. Beautiful views over the Luanga Valley.

Did this road yesterday. Pass is rough but can be done by experienced 4X4 drivers without too much stress in the right vehicle (high clearance absolutely necessary) and although slow going, the worst part is only around 4km. Mupamadzi river not yet sandbagged. Munyamadzi corridor road was not too bad. 6 hrs to T2 from the pontoon.
