Something not right?

Description

Update: she won’t take less than 50q.

To exit or enter Guatemala you have to pay a bridge fee. Make sure you have the right money for this. We heard from other travellers that it's 20q so we saved 20q to exit the country. Turns out that larger camper vans (like us at 6T) cost 30q, cars are 20q (they showed us the official charge sheet). After much discussion they let us off with 20q. This does not seem to be a scam. These are uniformed officers taking a toll fee, at a proper road barrier and you get a receipt for the money.

We were charged Q30 for our SUV. I don’t think there’s anything dodgy here - just that there are different prices depending on the size of your vehicle.

I entered Guatemala from Belize, I just drove over the bridge without being stopped and without looking at the guys sitting inside the small hut.

Lady first tried to get me to pay $250Q. I laughed. Told her 20Q. She then brought sheet over and said I was a medium van so it’s 50Q. I held firm at 20Q. After 3 minutes of sitting there she let me through for 20Q.

Don’t give in

Report Check-In

We’ve heard the price “varies,” so we started by holding 20 Q out the window as we drove up. She said it was 50 Q, which we paid, and she returned quickly with receipts that showed 50 Q. We’re under the impression after talking with Belize friends that locals don’t usually pay, but the price is supposed to be 50 Q.

Report Check-In

She refuses to take 20Q and is not very friendly. She stands at 50q so we paid it. No one else seems to be paying… oh well.

Report Check-In

the lady charges us 50 qz so we said it's 20 she said no and in the receipt it's 3 receipt 2 of 20 and of 10.

Report Check-In

When we crossed in our Toyota Landcruiser 80 series, the lady asked for $50Q. We refused and blocked the bridge for about 10 minutes until she accepted 20Q. 20Q is the highest amount listed on the receipt we received, any more than that is a scam. Locals were not being charged. Uploaded is a picture of the receipt.

Report Check-In

The lady tried to charge us 150Q for our SprinterVan today. There were a lot of soldiers standing behind her. We negotiated it to 100Q. But I talked to the SAT officer and they said it should be only 20Q. Another traveller confirmed 20Q. It seems like the toll both is official but the amount the lady charges maybe isn't

Report Check-In

No fee today maybe because it was pissing with rain!

Report Check-In

asked 30q to cross which we didn't have since we accidentally spent everything on food earlier. after some arguing we ended up paying $8 USD to just to get across.

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

No bridge fee/tax collected at the time we crossed into Guatemala.

I think that everyone pays something here. Tourist definitely pay the highest amount though. I think it was 15 or 20 quetzals. I can’t remember now. The border crossing here is easy. We tipped a boy for helping us get from station to station and there is quite a lot of back and forth.

Report Check-In

payed 20 Quetzal with a small campervan. looks like its only for tourists to me as well

Report Check-In

They closed the barrier rapidly as they see us. The fee serms to be only for tourists, but you get a receipt. With our 25ft rig we payed 50 GTQ.

Fizemos nossa saída da Guatemala bem de boa, super rápido e não precisamos pagar nada. Passamos as 19h, não tinha movimento e não estava quente demais. A saído da kombi foi bem tranquila também.
