Free dispersed camping on BLM land. The land is scrub and small trees. Tenting is permitted but the flat areas are dusty. 2-3 bars of LTE
All BLM land along lower bridge road is closed to passenger vehicles. It is only open to ATVs and motorcycles. Walk-in tent camping is allowed but you must park along Lower Bridge road.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
We live in one of the neighborhoods adjacent to this area. Ten years ago this was a great place to camp. Since then, our neighborhood has seen a dramatic increase in theft and vandalism, stalking, beater cars roaming the streets, and homeless people walking though the area. So we have called for an all out war against the homeless invasion in this area. We regularly call law enforcement to enforce the no camping requirement. We organize annual clean ups to remove the TONS of garbage dumped here. We call the state game commission when dead animals are found.
So no, don’t camp here. There are many great campgrounds and hipcamp sites available.
Report Check-InAre only open to class 1 (motorcycles) and class III (4-wheelers). It is not open to passenger vehicles.
Report Check-InHad a Ranger tell me there is no camping allowed here, because the homeless were taking it over. ATV traffic only.
Report Check-InThis area is not open to class II vehicles (cars, trucks, vans, etc.) The area is limited to quads and motorcycles.
Report Check-InFine for one night. Roads getting in are bumpy but very doable with 2WD. animal bones, gun shells, etc. spread out throughout which isn't pleasant. At the spot we stayed there was a dead possum nailed to a tree so those are the type of people who come out here... sad to see. We took it down. Besides all that it could be a really great spot. 2-3 bars Verizon.
Report Check-InGreat, private pull out spots close to smith rock. Only saw one set of bones, not full of trash as others have experienced, it was very clean. We had no problem in our 2wd van.
Report Check-Ingreat spot. stayed here for 4 nights while climbing at Smith Rock. a bit of garbage and bones. It is dusty.
Report Check-InAwesome spot. At some spots bones and trash but we didn’t care. Less HW noise further back.
We lived here for a week. Never had problems. If you wanna climb at smith you can rent a guide book at red point just before the park. If you Rock climb it’s a Must. Clip stick recommended
Great spot, found a nice pullout with a fire ring. Good cell service (AT&T) and only ~10 mins from Smith Rocks. Didn't see much trash, at least in the spot I camped at.
Report Check-InBig dusty area right off highway, lots of space and several fire rings. One other car was there when we got there. Would’ve been an alright space to sleep, but we came across some animal hides and a bunch of bones and decided to find somewhere else to spend the night lol. But seems fine for a stopover if you’re cool with it.
Report Check-InSimple dirt road pull off. Very doable with 2wd. As you merge toward the power lines, you’ll see a great fire pit TUCKED behind a shrub in a triangle shaped road area.
Not nearly as much trash as others reported though the main road traffic can be heard.
Report Check-InGreat spot, nice and quite, and a lot less trash than previous comments, don't go to far back though, it's like driving on a sand dune. Got stuck at least a foot in the sand and after 4 hours of digging and placing traction we still needed a tow. Great spot would go back again.
Report Check-InLots of trash in the area (old hot tub, truck topper, fridge...etc) and got woken up in the morning by some locals target shooting way too close to our camp. I'm not one to be scared by target shooting but I didn't feel safe so we left in a hurry. It served for one night but I wouldn't stay again.
Report Check-InNice spot. Drive in a bit deeper and to the right to avoid mattresses and other trash. Parked in next to the rocks and couldn’t hear traffic at all. Some target practice nearby but all in all a good night sleep. 2 bars AT&T and more with booster.
Report Check-InLots of trash but desolate. Parked near a potential bouldering wall. Cell phone service for Verizon is near perfect. Great spot for free camping outside of Smith Rock.
Report Check-InThere are broken glass, piles of trash and animal carcasses....quiet and we don’t see anyone here tonight. Truly wish people are not so inconsiderate with their trash. ;-( Many many spaces in all directions.
Report Check-InOne of the least favorite spots I’ve stayed this far. (Driving south from Alaska). There was trash around, broken glass in random areas almost looking like window had been broken. We stayed since it was later but had other loud vehicles coming through road after dark, looking for a spot and felt a little sketchy.
The next evening we stayed just past skull hollow campground on BLM land. Road was dirt and not too rough saw plenty of 2wd vehicles. We found a spot with views of the 3 sisters and nobody else nearby.
awesome place! plenty of room and not as much garbage as i was expecting from the other comments. about 4 or 5 other Van's here. felt safe and private! also only 5 mins away from a rest stop with good clean toilets.
Report Check-InPlenty of room. Sometimes the roads are rough but doable with a 2WD. Unfortunately, seems like people use it to dump their trash. Every once in a while you’re likely to come across a pile of junk, old tires or an animal carcass, but the latter is a natural part of this kind of landscape, I think.
Very quiet at night.
Pretty noisy, pretty muddy this time of year (March) but at least no huge Trucks like 2 miles North at the Rest stop...
Report Check-InFree dispersed camping on BLM land. This is a large area with lots of roads heading in all directions. The land is scrub and small trees. Great area for van lifers. Tenting is permitted but the flat areas are dusty.
