Description

Nice campsite in the nowhere of Tsavo. About 10km north of Mtito Andei straight at the border of the Tsavo park. It is a good stop over on the way from Nairobi to Mombasa. Lots of birds.
The camp is run by a sympathetic third generation white Kenyan, who can entertain you with his life stories.
There is a toilet and a bucket shower (must be arranged in advance), fireplace and cooking facilities. Food and drinking water you have to bring yourself. An old guide will take you on a bird watch walk through the bush. If you call the camp first, Robin will pick you up from the main road. This is especially recommended for big rigs so he takes you on an alternative road avoiding the bushes.
Phone: 0710 384 808
Price: Kes1200/- per person per night.

What a great little camp to stop at on the way to or from Mombasa. Run by Robin MacDonald who is a great host. There is a bucket shower and a flush toilet, its rustic but clean and servicable. Well worth a visit. Big rigs might have an issue getting into the camp so speak to Robin on +254 710 384808

Pleasant campsite, we enjoyed it a lot. Nice bucket shower, shaded kitchen area with lights at night. Plenty of water for the dishes. Perfect to get clean, relaxed and ready for the road again after camping in Tsavo!

Just make sure you give Robin a call so he can set it up! A call in the the morning to give a few hours before you arrive will do.

Very quiet, rustic accommodation. There is one bedroom with a double bed and private bathroom and one bedroom with 2 single beds and private bathroom. In the evenings a genet cat comes by and is fed regularly. Charges anything between 60 USD and 8000 KES for the whole house.

Such a nice secluded location right on the edge of Tsavo national park. Turn off after the total petrol station, to the end, turn left, under the railway, right at ‘world vision’, all the way till you see theblittle Nyika sign. Minimum 4 pax for open campsite. The house is sooo nice for night stay on the way to mombasa or Nbo.

Fantastic remote place. You need to phone or WhatsApp Robin ahead so he can prepare everything and give you the directions.

A nice bush experience, a quiet campsite, call first for water buckets to be provided. a bucket shower is provided and a flush toilet. The kitchen area is a shade with a table with buckets of water provided. A nice spot to break the Nairobi-Mombasa road or use as a cheaper (no accom or camping fees) spring board into Tsavo national park. Ksh 1000 for the campsite. There is a nice house for more upmarket travellers.

For anyone looking for a great bush getaway or night breaking up the Nairobi-mombasa road. The campsite is basic but perfect if you love it like this. Call ahead so water can be filled in the buckets. bucket shower and a real toilet, with a hand basin, a covered area with a table, quiet, bush, beautiful. There are also tents and beds incase you don’t have your own. For more glamping types there is the house. Loved it.

Waste of time. Firstly you won't reach the place if you use the coordinates. Secondly the owner just wants to see dollars. We arrived late afternoon, phoned him from the police station. We explained we just needed safe place for the tent. He asked if we were fully self sufficient, as he couldn't supply anything. We repeated that the only thing we needed was a safe place to pitch our RTT. He wanted 20 USD. When I told him that is to much for a place without facilities, he just said well then you continu your trip. Ridiculous! We managed to get to the Sikh Temple in Makindu instead. Here they are extremely hospitable: you can choose to camp or use a room, share their meals, use ablutions for FREE!

We came in on a Sunday while Simon was having his Sunday beers. He was so surprised as we did not book in advance. The campsite did not have water (if you call ahead this will be arranged), but we could camp at the house and use the bathroom of one of the rooms which was perfect! Simon is a chatty man, talked about politics and Africa which was good fun.
