Description

This is a good spot to sleep before driving up to the Rainbow Mountain parking lot. At roughly 3500m its not too cold and there's no wind.
There's a police station directly on the square. The officers were nice and friendly and told us to park anywhere on the square but not directly in front of their office.

We left Pitumarca around 8.15 AM and arrived at the parking lot at 10AM. We don't have the fasted/most powerful van there is and managed up without an issue. Its a hard dirt road, with only a few hairpin turns.
At this time, no tourist buses were going up nor down. So no issues with upcoming traffic.

If you start hiking around ten you'll reach Rainbow Mountain when most of the tourist crowds are about to leave or already have left. You won't be alone but it won't be too crowded either.
Big plus, leaving at this time, it will be warmer.

Due to cloudy weather and a little snow storm at the viewpoint, we had to wait some 15 minutes for the weather to change and suddenly we had the perfect view on Rainbow Mountain!

Latest Check-Ins

i really don't recommand to stay overnight here on the place. We did, but at 4AM, we were waked up by inhabitants and buses drivers. We seem that they were happy to annoy us with lots of horns and they were speaking very loudly just next to the car.

No generalization, but really, Peruvians are very special (to be polite)...

We spent a night here in front police station. Very quiet town, kind and lovely people. Toilets at the central market.
From here start one of the route to the rainbow mountain. There is no any tour from here BUT you can ask to go with the truck who takes the local workers to the entrance of the rainbow mountain. And only charges you $5 soles!!! ($3,5 soles if you want go back in te same truck)
The truck departure at around 4am,arrives to the entrance around 6am and go back 2.30pm. Plenty of time to do the trekking.
The entrance to the mountain $10 soles.
The tour from Cusco is around $50/60 soles, do the maths!
