We had a great experience crossing the border from Perú into Ecuador. All the customs officials we encountered were super friendly.
Arrived at 08:30 and departed with all the stamps and paperwork by 10:00.
We were issued 90 day tourist visas. We feel our Australia police clearance certificates enable this.
No vehicle/ quarantine inspection at all.

Peruvian and Ecuadorian migrations are in the same building. Ecuadorian aduana is right next to them.
Peruvian aduana is 50m away, somewhat hidden on the back of the building with the canals for inspection of the underside of vehicles. It is the first building you drive around when coming from the Peruvian side.
Ecuadorian aduana system was not working when we arrived, happens from time to time. We waited for 2 hours. The aduana guy told us it can be anywhere from 5 minutes to 3 hours to 2 days 🤷‍♂️

Nobody said a word for yellow fever, but it is always a good idea to have that vaccine, the fever is pretty bad 🫠

Entry and exit from Peru/Ecuador is done in the same place, a ticket window. Do not forget proof of yellow fever, since Ushuaia was the first time we were asked for it. Immigration was fast, the slow part is customs, especially when leaving Peru.

Report Check-In

From Peru to Ecuador in bicycle.
The exit of Peru and the entry in Ecuador are done here in the same building.
For the exit of Peru, we passed with 23 days of exceeding of our visa of 90 days. We had to pay 4.6 soles by day of overtaking. Possible to pay directly on the spot in cash (soles or dollars, but to have the exact amount because they do not return the change) or by card via an application (Pagalo) but which is difficult to find and download for the foreigners.

Ecuador to Peru
1st stop only to cancel TIP. Don’t take the first returno, instead follow road to park close to the building where marker is. There are several windows with aduana signs. Go to the marked building and try to park nearby. Employees won’t walk far for the plate inspection. We were not given a copy of the document with an exit stamp, but we took a photo. Glad we did because they wanted to see it in Peru. This stop took us nearly an hour at 830 am while we waited for the only person working to issue permits to others.

Report Check-In

Important note: Offices close at 5pm. Crossing took us a little less than 1 hour.

Ecuador ~> Peru

Stop here first! Building is on the left of the freeway. Follow the U-turn and go directly to the aduana to cancel your Ecuador TIP.

Follow the Salida signs and drive towards Peru/the second overlander customs marker. Ecuador immigration is located at the next marker.

There will be a check point before the Peru customs office where they look at Covid Vaccines. No boosters were needed - we had Moderna & Pfizer. (Fact check/search for updates, but I believe boosters are only required for older adults). Our cloth masks weren’t an issue at the border.

See the next overlander marker for proceeding steps.

Report Check-In

Leaving Perú, entering Ecuador.
Go to the 2nd building (main building)
1st: Sanitary control, 3 Covid vaccine dosis or PCR. They give you a ticket. Without this ticket you can not go to migration.
2nd: Migration. You show your ticket and stamp out Perú and after that stamp in Ecuador.
3rd: You go with the car to the first building leave your Perú Tip at Sunat (they will take a picture of your car). At the same building go to Ecuadors Senae and make your Tip for Ecuador (they will also take a picture).
All the procedure took us 1 hour.
If you need PCR, can be done at Tumbes. Check the point there.

Report Check-In

We crossed the land border on bicycle and as of today (March 2nd 2022) you need to show a full vaccination card or a negative PCR test. Only adults above 40 years old require the 3rd dosis as stated by Peruvian law. We are younger than this and 2 dosis of Moderna we enough. Also, no specific date is asked for the last dosis of the Covid vaccine: ours is 9 months old. Just do not forget to go to the health checkpoint before going to th migration office. It is mandatory and you will get a small piece of paper validating your vaccination card.

Leaving Ecuador - Entering Peru

Stop here to cancel TIP at aduanas. I was given a copy of the canceled tip. No passport stamps here. Continue to CEBAF Ecuador-Peru Border farther South for Ecuador exit stamps & Peru entry stamps, TIP, and SOAT. See comment I've added there for more info.

If you need a third covid booster shot (which is required for entry into Peru at least for those vaccinated with Moderna, a booster is not required for Johnson, I'm not sure about Pfizer), this location has 10 doses to give per day. Ask for the Ministry of Health office.

Report Check-In

We have a poder (with an Apostille) issued by an Argentinian notary for our car with Canadian plates.
We already crossed multiple borders (Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Peru) and have never had any problems. At the Border from Peru to Ecuador, however, the aduana didn't let our car pass because they wanted the poder to be authorized by the Canadian embassy/consultate.
1. & our Solution: We sent the original poder back to our notary in Argentina. He went to the embassy, organized a stamp and sent it back to us.
2. Solution: Get a new poder in the country where the car is registered.
3. Solution: Register the car in your name.

The whole story was a real time-consuming hassle. It costed us 3-4 weeks and a lot of money.
We tried it on 2 different days and we tried to talk to the boss of the aduana but they were strict. The funny part: The Embassy of Canada in Quito and Buenos Aires and our notary didn't understand why the border didn't let our car pass. As Ecuador is inside the Apostille they should have accepted it. Good luck Guys.

Took us 2 hours. Avoid lunch hour if possible. Make sure you cancel your Peruvian TIP before getting one for Ecuador (and make a photo of the cancelled TIP). Al different buildings, but walking distance.

Not fast. Only one Ecuador migration official working with two busses when we passed, which put us in a very slow line. Be prepared to spend 2+ hours, anything less will be a blessing. Peru >Ecuador.

But before too much discussion they found a solucion, like happenned In some others borders. They didn’t check Nothing inside our RV. No insurance needed in Equador. To people from Brasil they check the certificate from “Yellow fever”.

We tried to cross the border with a Chilenian Notarized Poder and it failed miserably. They wanted to a Poder from the country of origin in our case Canada. After 4 hours and the help of a friend we were finally able to cross the border with a freshly made Canadian Poder. Just be aware, that this problem might occure.
