An established campground in the Gila Box Riparian Area. Large flat sites with tables, grills and a single pit toilet. No water. Good ATT coverage. Surrounded by canyons above the Gila River. $5 bucks a night but we were here in mid October. No other campers. Light traffic. Safe. Quiet. Big vista. South of the mining town of Clifton off a dirt road that was just graded. The Black Hills Back Country Byway. Off of 191. Easy access for any rig.

Latest Check-Ins

Seems off the beaten track. Road and campsites have grass growing in them. Beautiful view of the Gila River. The old Safford bridge is nearby and worth a visit. Four bars of Visible/Verizon.

Great little BLM CG. As previously described. There's a sweet little picnic area just a mile down the road, just before you cross the bridge. A half dozen picnic tables under a grove of shade trees, along the river. Take the drive all the way down the Black Hills Back Country Bywy, all the way back to AZ 191 for some stunning scenery. Stop (when you can) and explore/read the Interpretive signs. The road can be sporty ... narrow, steep drop-offs, a little bumpy, hairpin turns ... but worth the effort. Sign says it's 21 miles and to plan for 2 hours. We took 3. Lots to see and do nearby. Visit the towns of Cliffton and Morenci and learn about the mining operation that's been here over 100 years. Very cool indeed. No electric, water or sewer. 1 pit toilet and a couple of trash cans. Very clean CG. Please help keep it that way. $5, $2.50 w/ senior parks pass. Great solar to keep your batteries charged. Very good AT&T LTE coverage.

BLM Campground wit pit toilets and picnic tables ($5) along Black Hills Scenic Backway in Gila Box Riparian Reserve. The Road from Clifton is in great shape. Very nice and quiet, no other camper was here on Dec 24th.

Indeed a nice and quiet place to stay. Every place has a firepit and grill (bring your own wood as there is none around) as well as a nice shaded picknick table. Very clean Vault toilet and two big garbage bins. We heard very close three different Great horned Owls at night and saw several mices. Still $5 per site/night with self registration.
