Description

This area is full of great wild camp options but this is one of our favorites even though the secret seems to be out so you will probably not be alone. It can get windy up here but the views are unbeatable. Only amenity here is fire pits. For an unforgettable drive, head north off the 163 through the valley of the gods (road turns off 7.5 miles north of Mexican Hat) on your way here. Roads in are dirt and not suitable for huge rigs.

Wow, amazing views all around. Overlooking the San Juan Gooseneck and can see where we were last night opposite the State Park. Utah is a great state wth all this scenery and open camping. Good Verizon phone and text signal but no data.

An awesome place, we stop here whenever we’re in the area. Plenty of campsites. Don’t stress if the “choice” spots are taken, there’s plenty of space here.

Awesome spot for our Sprinter. Spectacular views.

Worthwhile campsite in this area, thanks to fantastic views over the San Juan River and in all directions to the west, south, and east. We camped just west of the GPS coordinates here for the end of the road; only a short section of slickrock must be negotiated. Surprisingly not busy for a Friday night. As with other popular campsites, mice were a problem. Wake up early to watch the sun shine onto Monument Valley.

Wow. Thank you iOverlander community! One of the most stunning views I have seen while on the road! Didn't camp as the winds were already howling and expected to get worse. But still a great day trip!

Clifftop spot with incredible views, beautiful sunset, and several spots to park and camp off the road. The road up is switchbacks and unpaved, but 2 lanes wide.

Been visiting here for 15+ years. Father loved it and had his ashes here 2004. Visit every year around Fathers Day. Usually secluded and peaceful

Great place for free camping. Arrived mid afternoon and only a few cars were here and all were gone at sunset. We have a 28’ Class C and had no problems getting here, but be aware that there is a 5 mile drive on a dirt road which is not recommended if it has rained or is going to rain. We are here with two other RV’s (our friends) so not sure how we’ll know this place is. It is worth the trip as the view is amazing but is windy at times.

One of the real great places for free camping in the Southwest with a great view across the San Juan River to Monument Valley and Navajo Mountain.

This is up on a really high plateau overlooking glen canyon and monument valley in the distance. A rather popular view point during the day but not many people spent the night up here. Super windy and cold when we were there. Plenty of free camp spots with beautiful views. Fairly exciting, steep road leading up to it. Not for the faint of heart or big vehicles.
