Description

Kwai Community development trust Camp site no 7. Big site that is part of the Khwai community campgroundan . Big tree and no facilities but lots of game around. We had elephant in our site one night. Great game drives on the Khwai River that is 1 km away. It is pricey at Pula 300 a night per person. It was worth it for us. Campsites are far apart. One of our top places in Botswana. Good to support the community. You have to pay in the town Khwai at the trust offices. Town is 17km away.

*edit 18/06/2023: price is currently 350 pula pp.

Finding the reception is quite a challenge (couple of km in, no signs and lots or roads). The area is beautiful and there is lots of roads to discover on your game drive. With 350 pula pp it’s definitely overpriced, all you get is some basic ablutions with cold showers and no toilet paper. There is no power or water on the sites. We got allocated a site close to the tented camp which wasn’t great as there was a big group that arrived in the tented camp and they were very noisy. I’d try to get a site a bit more private next time. During our game drives we’ve seen lots of people camping on the river which are not even official campsites. Not sure if they actually paid since it’s so easy to get in the area and mis the reception. Anyway, definitely worth staying but just super expensive. We had elephants and hippos coming through camp.

Campsite No7: Far from the river. Will try to get one closer tomorrow. No facilities.

Update on our tent! The tent was found some distance from our camp..apparently dragged away by a hyena. Staff went out of their way to locate us and bring the tent to us in Kasane! Incredibly helpful staff and community. A happy ending.

Always been a favourite camping destination. Great setting and excellent game viewing. We’ve been here for 5 nights on this trip.
Unfortunately we returned back to camp this afternoon after a game drive to find our tent had been stolen!! A folded up dome tent in its cover - nothing else was taken, but that’s likely the items were not of interest. We will be reporting to the Khwai booking office and nearest police station. Very saddened that this would happen here.
