Camping under mango trees, lots of shade and space and a nice garden on the beach with hammocks and chill spots. Nice and quiet, we moved here after one night at Funky Chyclid and the noise of their generator, for Kw5000 pppn this is much, much better. Toilets and shower are dated, no electricity points nor bin and water is off when there is a power outage, no wifi and the staff loves screaming at each other at 6am around your camp but otherwise a pretty chilled place as long as you go and ask for the things needed.
Their claims to be a responsible non profit (HEEED center next door) is however doubtful, the South African managers are not interested in HEEED, the non profit side and the Finnish owners (who only come part of the year) have their private house on the land and it is all quite unclear actually where the money goes, even staff doesn’t really know so they would be better off not claiming too much and being transparent first. Gerard at the HEEED center across the road is a nice guy though and it is fun to join their arts and crafts programs over the weekend days.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Tried to ask for camping because Funky Chillid was too busy! if
We stayed here for 5000ppn. No problem to check in! Very quit night and morning. Nice camping in the shade! Beautiful garden with hammoks and beach view.
The toilet and showers are basic, clean but without lights (torch!)
We liked it because the beach and accomadation is quit. And if you want to have it more busy Funky Chillit is walking distance.
We arrived description by other entries correct. Nice camp area under trees. The manager was not there and after waiting hanging around for 1 hour we left. Nobody could assist us in question etc. There was about 4 or more staff i could see.
Report Check-InBack in town and this is a nice and quiet place compared to the other options around with a clean beach without the locals washing etc. You are away from the lake though hidden behind the lodge. But there is something not right here, the owners from US and Finland don’t greet at all, they totally ignore you, staff is friendly but I left because something doesn’t feel right here and after asking in the village it seems this place has had some challenges with the honesty of the owners and the WWF funding they received to build this lodge (and private home). kw5000 pppn no electricity, cold crappy showers so yes its quite for Cape Maclear and no its not a place that feels good to support...
