This is a large pull out along the paved road which leads to the free campgrounds (Horse Camp, Buck Rock & Big Meadow). We chose to stay here because the Verizon service was excellent. As you go further down the road you will lose service. There are tons of free spots along this road.

Stayed four nights in this area while visiting Kings Canyon and Sequoia. Had 2-3 bars of LTE Verizon the entire time. Fire pits scattered throughout but it says you need a permit to use it. Be careful of the ants - they’re everywhere
Report Check-InThere are several spots on the Forest Road leading up to big meadow where you can park or tent camp, all with decent Verizon cell coverage. I spent four days here and had a great week!
Report Check-InAll sites down this road were inaccessible due to the gate being closed.
Report Check-InRoad closed due to snow/ice. Rangers suggest staying north of Kings Canyon for dry camping. Anticipate opening in May.
Report Check-InAlong Big Meadows rd there is cell service especially at the beginning. Beautiful area with free camping. The dirt roads are maintained well and it’s not very crowded during the week.
