We had a very specific problem; our timing belt failed twice, causing engine damage twice. So we really wanted to get to the bottom of it, making sure it wouldn't happen a third time. That's why we chose this mechanic. At 50 dollars per hour probably the most expensive of the whole trip but in the end we were happy that we came here. They looked very thoroughly for the culprit and several thousands of kms later, we're still running smoothly. Definitely contact them in advance. Not the fastest but we'd recommend them for their professionalism.

Renzo is the most professional and honest guy we met in our entire trip. He helped us with everything we needed, advice and actual work. If you need a mechanic in Lima don't think twice and come here. (Call first, they are very busy).

Renzo is very nice guy! He helped us with all our car issues: they checked the automatic transmission, fixed our 4x4 and clean and readjust the breaks. We also had some trouble with the check engine alert and he showed us how to check the computer on our own for the next time and gave us the list of all the codes.
They are usually very busy, make sure you contact him in advance.
Really great team!

I was referred to Renzo and his team by another overlander, and wow did I get lucky. I had a very strange ABS/braking issue with my 2001 LC (two other mechanics in other countries could not solve it), and in a few hours they had solved it. They also took care of a few other items and found and solved two small issues I wasn't even aware of. All for a very reasonable price and constantly keeping in contact with me to let me know what was going on and work with me on how I wanted to solve it.

I can't recommend Renzo and his team highly enough.

Professionals. My window was broken in a theft and Toyota said 1 month to wait for a window. Renzo got me a window installed in a day for less than half the price of just the window from Toyota!! It is original Toyota window but a different tint. They added a tint, and you cannot tell it is not the original!!

My fog lights were not working and they found the problem. He knows overlanders do not have time to wait for parts, and tries to find solutions.

If you are too cheap to pay for quality work, find a cheap garage and take your chances. If you want professional work you can count on, this is the place. I found prices very good. Plus Renzo speaks excellent English and is one of the friendliest people I have met in Peru.

I also got a new rooftop tent here, and installed the same day for much cheaper than I had heard quoted at other places.

We called Renzo to see if he could check our van, he accepted to take us. The team at AutoLac is extremely professional and they solved every little and big problem we had. They were busy but took care of us anyway. The prices were very fair. If you are in Lima and need work on your 4x4 Renzo is your guy!
Just remember to call ahead since they are busy all the time..

Yes, everyone had it right. Renzo was beyond amazing with us. I contacted him ahead of time since his previous post said he no longer accepts overlanders. Without hesitation he agreed to take a look at our car despite the fact that he was super busy. His team is just as amazing and meticulous with their work. You just have the feeling that you are in good hands and 100% confident driving away. If you need work done and would like to pay him a visit, contact him first.

We also can't speak highly enough of Renzo, Pedro and the Autolac mechanics. We came here to the professionals for a carb clean, tune up, oil change and replacing various parts (filters, spark plugs etc). They took lots of time to check she was running well and referred us to an exhaust specialist. Super friendly and really want to help you. It's worth braving that traffic to get here - one of our top mechanics on the continent !!

We can only recommend this mecanic. He was reliable, understood we where on the road and didn't have that much time, found our problem, got the part quickly and for a very fair price. Well located, you don't have to go through Lima if you are coming from the North.

Great place to bring your vehicle for some good servicing & maintanance as we did. Renzo and his team are probably some of the best mechanics you are going to meet on the PanAm. Prices are a bit higher than your average countryside "taller", but imo great value for money. For us, who lack technical knowledge it's just a great thing to have the car checked thoroughly and prepared for the rest of our trip. Well worth going here!

My highest recommendation! Renzo and team are great. I learned of the death of a family member back in the US while having some work done on my unit. Renzo's help was invaluable in helping me quickly resolve issues in Peru to return to the States for 6 months. Autolac excellent mechanics . . . Renzo great guy.

wwwooooowwwwww , what a garage and such a good team !!!!! we came here with breaks problems. although the garage was completely full , they looked immediately after our car (ford e150) . problem found , broken disc and something else i couldn't explain but anyway . they fought a fool day going from shop to shop trying to find us the pieces we needed .if they are not able to get it they would import it straight from usa . so you can be sure your babe is in good hand . also , as we are use to sleep in our car and we could offered an hostel they lovely offered us to sleep right in the garage . we came in lima trying to find out a place to let the car for 6 months . they helped us to find it .well , i won't describe this site for pages but i definitely recommend this garage . SUPER TEAM AND AWESOME OWNER !!!!!!!

So based on the other comments I've read about AutoLac, I decided to go to see them. Man what an awesome garage, Ive been driving off road/ hardcore roads the whole time since I left Vancouver, and have been to many many garages, fixing my truck. I've been very fortunate with the garages I've picked, but if there's a winner it's this one. This is Renzo's garage, and man he is a great hearted person, who use to race bikes, cars and has a huge passion for driving. Between Quito Ecuador and Santiago Chile, it's a long way and if you can see him he will really make sure you know how your vehicle is doing, and does put in a huge effort in finding anything you need, and coming up with solutions. All the other comments are accurate, so I don't need to repeat other people. He's really thorough.

We arrived with some fairly major problems on our F350 dually - jury-rigged rear spring pack and one rear brake disintegrated, plus needing new brake pads all-round, disk machined and a fair bit of routine maintenance on the front end. Within a couple of hours Renzo and his team had sourced what parts could be sourced locally (all genuine Ford spares which suited me), and at my insistence, new up-rated rear spring packs, all new adjustable shocks and new front-end suspension parts were on order from the US - delivery less than one week.
Despite a workshop that was literally overflowing with work in progress, we received the best service possible from the professional team and the installation was checked and rechecked and re-rechecked to ensure we left the shop with a job done properly. Prices for parts were about what we pay in Australia for similar imported parts and labour costs were very, very reasonable. Renzo is adaptable and several times suggested he could source equivalents locally that would do the job, but was happy to go along with my wishes as far as parts went. If you are on a limited budget, he will be able to work miracles without breaking your bank.

We had some problems with the steering. Renzo and his Team fixed it all very well and they also put an aditional leaf to our springs. The guys in his garage are very good and fast. Renzo, the owner is a nice guy who keeps his garage on a high level, one of the best and modernst I have seen so far in Southamerica. He is very competent and finds all problems immediately. We could even live in his workshop as long as the fixings took. A really usefull adress if you have some trouble with your car.

Yes, his is THE place, and the coordinates are spot on; this will help you fight your way there through the Lima traffic. We visited Renzo and his staff just for a check-up on steering, drive train, and suspension. Renzo confirmed that all was well with the steering. It's good that we didn't allow Willi in Caraz to proceed with his "chimbo" work. That would have been a huge waste of time and money. Renzo thoroughly checked and lubed everything underneath, and then he wanted to buy our good old Toyota... Sorry Renzo, should have hung on to yours... : )

Our suspension system was shot by the time we got to Lima. Renzo and his team at Autolac did a phenomenal job installing new customized springs and tracking down the proper shocks for our Honda Element (not a typical model here in Peru). They also replaced our brakes (at our request to check them). Renzo's service is unmatched -- he shows you the worn parts, comes up with a few different plans when things are tricky, and keeps costs in check. He even showed us how to adjust our headlights if needed given the increased height of our new springs. When we went to pick up our car, he insisted we drive it first, then his team did another near hour of checking and tightening everything up. You're in good hands with this team!

Muy muy amable. Renzo was so fantastic. He made going to the mechanic a fun experience! His team fixed all of our troubles - brakes, sway bar, new battery and he even helped us get some important aluminum wielding done. Renzo is an amazing guy.

The wheel bearings on our 4Runner went bad so we limped into Autolac. Renzo and his crew went above and beyond to get our car fixed as promptly as possible. Renzo made sure we had complete professional service. We would highly recommend this location for car repairs. He is a very caring and genuine person who made sure we were taken care of.

We had some work done by Renzo and team, highly recommend to others. They found parts for our 1995 chevy van that nobody else could. Probably not cheapest in town as very professional and modern garage. Renzo really nice guy, speaks english too which helps when you try and explain tricky car issues.

Great overall mechanic specializing in 4x4 and off-road vehicles. We were recommends by a friend who belongs to the off-road circle in Lima. They all bring their trucks here. Renzo is the owner and he speaks English, Italian and Spanish. He is very hospitable and even helped us install a heater in the car.
