Description

Really beautiful bush camp on the side of the Lower Zambezi River.
You can camp for K200, 15USD, or go to a chalet for K400.
A bit rustic, but perfect if you are looking for a real bush experience!
Paul the owner is a local, he can bring you on a safari in the Park or the GMA with his scenic Land Cruiser.
Good for backpackers.

Very nice campsite with beautiful river view and big space.
We saw many wildlife from the camp (elephants, hippos, crocodiles…).
The place is clean, with water. Ablutions are clean with hot shower. Fire was made by David every evening and we had a place with table, chairs and light to have dinner.
Paul and David are very friendly and helpful. We did canoe safari, boat cruise and game drive in the national park: all were amazing.
We loved that place.
15$pppn for campsite.

That's the nearest campsite to the gate of the Lower Zambesi NP for now. Paul the owner is so friendly and helpful. The campground is amazing: right on the river with beautiful views and a very good infrastructure: fireplace with wood provided, hot shower, flushing toilet! only power is rare. They are trying to improve with solar panels.
It's very authentic and close to nature. Exactly what we are looking for. And it's only one hour drive to the Chongwe Gate. Just contact Paul via WhatsApp: +260 97 7246564. He answered within a day. 15USpppd

We were just informed that Kennedy has passed away unfortunately. The campsite is currently closed and being renovated. It should open again in few weeks.

We left Mukuyu today. Spend 3 nights here. After June it's my second time. Ken, the local owner, David the attendant and all involved people are doing a great job. Ken's sunset boat tour is just impeccable. We can recommend Mukuyu any time. If you like to relax, enjoy freedom, peace and the Zambezi you are at the right place. Thank you Ken and David

We spent 3 days in this amazing place ! You can camp right on the edge of the river with a beautiful landscape and the sound of hippos and elephants all around. Kennedy and his staff are looking after every detail to make you feel comfortable ! You can do boat trips and the views are just amazing with hippos and elephants swimming. They also took us to a small island so we can enjoy a pique nique. Very much recommended. 200 kw per night

Great away-from-it-all rustic bushcamp. We planned to camp however the elephants grazing the trees changed our minds to stay in a chalet instead! Great to watch from a distance. This cost k 800 for 2 inc breakfast. Dinner k120 each. Kenny the owner cooked good food, was guide and boat driver and ran around doing everything. He even got the blow up pool out and pumped water from the rivet when we asked if he had a pool as it was 42degrees! In the GMA and 1 hour drive to park. Well recommend.

Cannot recommend this place enough! We ended up staying four nights enjoying Kennedy and his staffs hospitality. We negotiated discount prices as we are skint backpackers for a room and camping spots but honestly its worth full price.

It’s the only place run by locals in the area and the activities they organise aren’t polished or glossy but feels authentic and are incredibly enjoyable. We went on an overnight visit to an island which we reached by canoe for 1000 kwacha each which included meals and tents (not in perfect condition but do the job) and a sunset boat ride. I also enquired about climbing Zambezi escarpment which wasn’t on their list of activities but it was organised for me the next day for 700 Kwacha accompanied by a local scout funded by the community and a guide (ish) who happened to also be the local village bar owner so I also topped up on some beer on the way home!

The staff look after you all the time lighting evening fires, bringing charcoal to cook on, hot water in the morning etc. There was no bar or restaurant operational when we were here due to low numbers of visitors (Covid) but you can buy fresh produce from the farms next door for incredibly good value.

Beautiful scenic campsite on the edge of the river. Lovely dining room 5 metres from the wafer. A fire is lit in the evening with comfy chairs to sit in. The staff are very attentive. The ablutions are clean though a bit rustic. Kennedy used to be a chef at the fancy lodges and is building this place on his own.

we camped 1 night here and would really recommend it. it is basic and rustic but with riverside camping looking over to Mana Pools. we heard lions and lots of hippos and saw elephants on the bank. David went the extra mile to make sure we were comfortable and had all we needed bringing us boiling water in the morning for coffee, made the fire for us in the evening and we even payed him to do some laundry. Best hospitality we have had in Zambia so far.

Very nice campsite with very friendly staff. Paid K200pppn. They also do canoe tour with outnight on a little island for K1200 pppn.

Lovely place with braai spot direct at the river and grass. They are very helpful. One of the guys makes fire every evening. He is so kind. So they cut some branches and we could pass with our truck (18 t). So it is definetly possible for big rigs. Ofc a bit narrow, but it worked. For a shower you can use a chalet. We were there for 3 days and enjoyed it really. We did also a kanu/game drive. The car was very old and the motor died off very often. The first 4-5 times it was funny, but after 50 times it was annoying. So use the newer car.

Very nice place with the view on the river, on the island in front you can see a lot of elephant. The staff was friendly especially the owner who made everything to feel at home. They have canoe and we managed to do a day trip with an overnight on an amazing island. Waking up surrounded by elies and hippos. The ablution is very basic but they are updating the full campsite side with new ablution blocks and new campsites. Coming soon, planned for next season. We highly recommend this
place.

It’s an ok place but for camping we preferred Munyemeshi. We did an overnight canoe trip with them, the camoe trip and the food were good but the sleeping arrangement was very bad. Bring your own stuff.

Price for overnight canoe trip including 3 meals was 1200 kwacha per person (we asked around: mvuu charged 375 usd, kiambi 197 usd).
