Ghana
Highly corrupt Police here. Stopped us while about to ride through the toll booths.
Wanted to see some local vehicle reg document which we don't need. We travelled through Africa and into Ghana without it.
We had to enter some white building on the side of the road where he wanted us to pay an on the spot fine for not having this document.
If you do get into that situation, make sure before you walk in you wave a few cash notes around so everyone can see before you enter.
This is so that all his mates can see there is money to be had and will put him in a difficult position. if he doesn't share the loot, he may be reported.
Once inside, talk in circles and frustrate them. They then get paranoid and chase you out without paying the bribe.
They threaten you with court appearances etc. Ignore this.
A fat arrogant twat who doesn't like eye contact. So repeat logic during conversation and refuse paying.
We don't have any photos of this place yet.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Got here with a bus. The police seemed quite aggressive but they let us go after barely five minutes, I'm guessing they know the bus company and the driver. Nothing to pay whatsoever, but they were stopping a lot of private vehicles so it might still take some patience and diplomacy to get through by car without paying any bribe.
Report Check-InGot stopped and chatted with the officer a bit about our last days in Ghana-which unfortenuately have not been happy days due to our days in a hospital because of Malaria.
Maybe that soothed him or he was just in a mood not to check anything, he "just" asked if we would have anything to support him-as he had several kids, I handed over some stilos and off we went.
(This was the second time in Ghana at all the various police-stops we have passed by that we actually have been asked for something.)
Report Check-InStill there, still corrupt. Tried the reflector think. Made me go inside the building. I just waited it out. 10 mins or so.
More annoying checks within the next kilometers.
Report Check-InPassed there twice within one week and get pulled out by the police twice. They told us we don't have reflectors on the car but need to, which is an old rule but not relevant anymore. Bring time, be patient and friendly even though they might be not. After 20 minutes they got tired and let us go without paying anything!
Report Check-InThey tried everything from international driving license, first aid kit etc. Than they said we are not allowed to drive with closed Sandals.
Told them we will call the ambassador if they keep making trouble. They got scared and let us go.
Report Check-InStill the same… corruption.
They want 500 cedis because i dont want to give my reel documents (only photocopies)
…. Haha
We drove through here without any problem, didn't get stopped.
Report Check-InStill corrupted checkpoint.
They threatened keeping our papers until next Monday as we were Saturday. They told us we will have to go to court… we told them we know this is not a real fault and we kept the same speech during the next 30 minutes they got tired and finally let us go !

Had a very good chat with an officer who's father lives close to us in Europe, he even called him up and we talked to his father in Dutch! No corrupt experience whatsoever.
