Something not right?

Description

Camping at the abandoned boat ramp of Red Hill Marina County Park. There are shaded picnic tables. The shoreline of Salton Sea with lots of gulls is now ca 500 yards away. Not a beautiful place, but special and very quiet.

this place is weird, there are RVs that have been there a long time and don't look very used. there are signs to an office that is closed and looks to be that way for a long time as well.
then there is a us flag flying that looks pretty new.
we did not stay, too creepy

This spot is nice and quiet, level, and has concrete slabs and picnic tables. We stopped by the RV park the evening before and no one was in the office. We thought the other side of the hill was free camping but got a visit in the morning from a ranger that said it is all $20 a night either here or at the RV park. The coolest part was that at dusk hundreds of bats flew out of the rock hill.. it was really neat to see.

Ok spot, very quiet. Washboard roads coming in were doable but annoying. Cell service on this side of the red hill for both att and Verizon was in and out, not at all reliable. The other side of the red hill had good 5G for both phones.

Report Check-In

When I arrived there was a man on a ATV and a women in a camping van chatting. Both of them gave me a strange look. I parked the van and climbed the red hill. While I was up there they resume chatting and went. The men went around my van with his ATV and looked inside and left. The place has demolished concrete slabs. There is no water at the boat ramp and it is way out. Lots of noise from the thermal plant nearby. There is a campground on the right side and it didn’t look good either. I didn’t like the place. I didn’t stay.

confusing since signage states "pay area" but maybe that's just to the right. This area is to the left. asked the ranger guy but his reply was hesitant and less than clear. didn't stay. better to just stay at slab city.

Report Check-In

It stinks from the lake and from the cowfarms depending on the wind. There are new signs, that you have to pay, not sure if only for the RV-park but there was nobody at the RV-park and lots of working machines in the boat ramp parking. Maybe it's gone be a payed camping, when it's restored.
