Description

3 parking lots by the trailhead to aguas turquesas. We stopped at the first one since the road gets too narrow ahead for wider rigs but it is more flat at the last one (Update 11/2022: I would say the opposite, main parking lot is more level, recently graded and they don't want people driving in further by car).

The day parking is free if you eat a tasty local trout dish for 10 soles or donation based otherwise. Overnight is 5 soles per vehicle. Bathrooms and water available.

Just about any vehicle can make it, lots of small cars up here but huge rigs might have issues with the somewhat narrow road

Latest Check-Ins

Arrived in the dark and slept on the parking.

Report Check-In

We spent one night here. It’s very quiet. We arrived at 19:30 so everything was closed. In the morning we hiked to the Aguas Turquesas paying 10sols pp and we ate a trout at the trucheria. Apart from wc the trucheria also has showers.

Report Check-In

Massive parking lot (at least room for 50-100 cars), but still a super friendly and welcoming vibe. We parked here in the late evening, went to the Aguas Turquesas by foot (not far, 1.3km in total), and had a delicious trout at one of restaurants near the parking lots. At 5pm most shops were already closing, but she still made us fried trout. I didn't even need to finish my question about staying overnight when she said yes. Trout is now 12-15 soles depending on the size (including sweet tea, potatoes, rice and salad), but still a bargain. Recommended stop!

(Driving here from Carapo took ages though, snaky mountain dirt road up to 4400m and additional construction going on, 2-5 hours depending on your luck)

Report Check-In

We tent camped at the back of the first parking lot (sandy) near the river. We arrived at 11 PM, and there was no one around so we just set up camp. No one said anything when they saw us there in the morning. There is Bitel signal!

Report Check-In

One the most incredibles places that we had been. Is a little far away but worth it! We leave Ayacucho yesterday at 7 pm, acamp in gas station and arrived at 1 pm here. We ate a Peru Trucha Ceviche and the people here are so friendly!

Report Check-In

We arrived at sunset and asked if we can pass the night here. They said yes and did not ask for anything in return.
