ROBBERY!!
Nice camping but I’ve been robbed during the night of my birthday by the watchmen of that place. The owners were pretending nothing like this ever happened -which is false- and didn’t cooperate saying that ‘we camp at our own risk’.
Do NOT recommend this place at all. Alte Bruck next door is the best option!

ROBBERY

This campsite still has problems with theft. In the same night, our knife was stolen, and another campers speaker. It was the campsites own security guys that took it - we could see from the footprints in the sand (the cleaning lady helped match the shoe prints!).
But the owner/manager just said "camp at own risk" and pointed to the sign. No help at all and no repercussions on the employees, even though the evidence was so obvious.

Do not camp here.

BE CAREFUL HERE!

Camp site was neat and well laid out. Camp sites have a nice big covered area with tables and a power outlet (only good for charging devices, 5A max, so I ended up running on solar). Ablutions are clean and well maintained and the housekeeping staff were a real pleasure.

Unfortunately my stay was ruined by theft. Almost certainly by the security who patrol at night (based on shoe prints found near the scene of the theft). A very expensive Bluetooth speaker as well as a bunch of food and beer was stolen from me while I visited with some neighbours. On the same night fellow travellers at another camp site also had things go missing. It’s a real shame that after all the previous security issues the owners have not done basic mitigation such as installing CCTV cameras on the existing guard posts.

The way the theft was handled also left a lot to be desired. The first reaction was to try and blame fellow campers even though the only other people at the camp were people I was visiting and an elderly foreign couple. I was meant to stay a few more nights but decided against it and a refund for the nights I chose not to stay was not offered.

Sadly I would not recommend this place. Could be great but the owners clearly couldn’t care less about their business!

Report Check-In

we paid 390 for 2 persons and camper as it was low season...ok..as described before .. very good restaurant above the sea ..cold and very windy. but delicious.. many locals.

Report Check-In

Campground is kinda cute, very clean and nice sound of the crashing waves. Wifi available next to reception.
We paid 555 N$ though for 2 people, because it was “high season”. There were about 2 other parties around.
The following night we stayed at Alte Brücke up the street which was 100 bucks cheaper.

Report Check-In

22 narrow palm-leave-fenced sites close to the ocean with shaded picnic tables. The restroom is fine, Wifi is working only at the office, 4G MTC-Signal. Unfortunately part of the campground and the structures near the ocean are destroyed. No view of the ocean or the Swakop river despite you are close to them. Ok for one night in the nice town of Swakopmund but maybe you find nicer bushcamp options or campsites around (e.g. Sophia Dale). Most water tubs are smaller than 1/2 inch, we found only one tub with a 1/2 inch connetion near site 2 to fill our water tank.

After reading the previous reviews we asked Nico about security, he said he'd sent his security guard home as there wasn't anyone staying but reassured us that it was safe. I thought he was joking. He showed us where he was staying and gave us his number in case of anything. We stupidly left a mobile phone charging at our site whilst out, after returning it was still there! Nice guy who runs it although after our stay he remembered that it was high season and would like more money from us... We obviously didn't pay this.
Clean ablutions and huge shower cubicles. Incredibly good WiFi at site 1.

Report Check-In

Pleasant campsite very close to the beach. Thatch roofed sites, well kept. Clean central amenities. 180 N$ pp off season. Friendly and easy going. Free WLAN at reception. Excellent elevated bar/bistro on next door directly on the beach. 0,5 draught beer 23 N$.

Report Check-In

Completely overpriced!!!!! ......and not very friendly. They wanted N$ 510 pn! They claimed the WiFi would work - it did not (and they did not care really about it)!!
We did not stay! We found a much better (and friendlier) place at the Desert Sky backpacker.

Back again at this great place for a night in Swakopmund and went to Happy Denn again for the calamari... : )

See earlier reviews.

Report Check-In

Nice camp as said around a round grassy field. Rest of info still the same.

Very friendly host and security is alert and walking around (see earlier reviews). 180 pppn low season.

Thanks to hippysquared (see review below) we had THE best calamari EVER! Place is called Happy Denn (white caravan with big VARTA sticker on the back). Do not miss this if you like calamari.

Report Check-In

We stayed here twice for a total of 3 nights. Great spot, free WiFi around reception and easy walking distance to various beaches, restaurants etc. The “varta “ caravan/food stall just up the road does wonderful calamari and kabeljou at excellent value. No security issues and always felt safe.

Report Check-In

Despite of the safety warning we stayed here for a night. Really lovely ‘city campsite’ with the cleanest abslutions we’ve had so far. We felt really safe here, the gate was good secured and the vibe was relaxed. Just a 1 minute walk to the Tiger Reef bar&restaurant next to the sea. Recommended for a stopover.

Report Check-In

Albeit the warning I felt the place was safe and guarded. The electric gate is manned 24hrs. The sites are next to each other arranged in enclosures. There is an ample thatched roof with a wooden table, braai, electricity and dustbin at each site. Paid 180NAD for one person and vehicle. Quiet and peaceful, next to the bar and restaurant and the beach. Ablutions were large and very clean. Recommended!

Report Check-In

SECURITY PROBLEM. After checking in I went to town. After a stroll through the town I went back to the camping in the early evening. Surprisingly no guard was at the gate and I could proceed to my car unchecked. I was thinking how comes this could happend and felt unsafe. At about 2:30am on Saturday June 8. while I was there, several robbers made a hole in the fence, smashed from two cars sidewindows (camp nr. 12 & 13, German girls group and a Swiss couple) and grabbed whatever they got. Luckily nothing valuable. On that night there were only two guards instead of three. The police came and so on. But two three nights again: I could go in and out at night through the gate, there were again only two guards..... I can not recommend this place

Report Check-In

A surprising camp considering it was in the middle of town. We had absolute privacy, set around a central grassy area. Just next to the camp, was the beach, a very groovy bar and restaurant which had the nicest staff and excellently priced drinks. We had hot water, nice showers and very clean toilets. We felt safe with gates and guards patrolling throughout the night. Walking distance from all main attractions, and fairly priced at N160pppn. For a town stop, we would highly recommend it. (Matthew, the manager, is probably the coolest guy in town).

Report Check-In

Still 180 pppn. But there is a weekly rate of 120 pppn. Overlander meeting point.

Report Check-In

Way too expensive in high season. It’s 330 for 1 Person for 1 night as they charge 150 per Campsite and 180 per person.

There is an electricity plug for charging phones and a “nice” sign for what one is not allowed to use the plug.

For 330 per Campsite I would expect having proper electricity, especially as it is in swakop downtown and not anywhere in the bush and my own water tap with sink.
There is even no light at the camp.
And no... no private bath.

The toilets are even mixed gents & ladies. The showers are separated. They take very good care about the hygienic standards. The cleaning ladies around all the time and are cleaning constantly.

So way overpriced for what you get.

Report Check-In

Lovely private campsites with clean ablutions and electricity. Very close to beach and sleeping with the sound of waves are perfect. Close to city centre and shops. N$180 p/p

Report Check-In

Paid 360 for 2 persons with car and tent. Beware of the cats, they grabbed our braai meat.

Report Check-In

Decent place as described, although expensive - owner said they don’t offer a discount for foreign plates anymore. Maybe still worth asking though. WiFi was only available by the main building.

Report Check-In

Really nice and well equipped campsite, although flooded with tourists as everywhere in Svakopmund. Fast wifi even at the campsites. Hot showers and clean absolutions. There is also a lovely little cat running around. Price is low season is 180 N$ pp, in high season they charge additionaly 150 N$ per campsite.

Report Check-In

Very nice campsite, clean ablutions, friendly staff. 180$ pp

Report Check-In

Still a great place. Close to everything. Spotless ablutions
For foreign number plates discounts
We paid 120 nad pp. ask for it!
Very nice owner.

Report Check-In

The place is really nice, quiet and secure. We very there nearly 10 days in Mai 2017 and 5 days in january 2018. The manager is very friendly and helpful. Belongs to the owner of the Tiger reef restaurant, the jetty and the cubes appartement. 180 ppn.

Report Check-In

Pefect and quiet camp not far from town. Internet was quite fast.

Report Check-In

Be careful at night at this place! Strange people are walking around in the premises, one even knocked on the door of our car, waking us up in the middle of the night, asking for money and telling us a story that he needs to buy fuel for his wife who is stuck somewhere with the baby. Would not recommend this place!

Report Check-In

We stayed here for one night. Nice and clean place. In off season it 180 ND pppn. Since we had a foreign number plate we got a discount to 120 ND pppn.

Report Check-In

price is no 180 N$ pppn in off season, otherwise like said bevore

Report Check-In

Neat and tidy campsite, as above sites are quite near each other. Near to beach, bars, restaurants and walk to town centre. New toilet and shower blocks just started. Helpful manager. Site reasonably secure. Most pitches have room for 4 cars (1 car and 3 tents etc), large shaded area with table, benches and deck chairs and cooking area. Each site has electricity but short walk for water or doing dishes

Report Check-In

160N$ pp (+300N$ per site in high season), more rustic than neighboring Alte Brücke, right next to Tiger Reef Bar which is nice for dinner or a sundowner, friendly manager, sites are close to each other but private enough due to separation, no water or light at sites but electricity, braai place, table and sun shade, laundry and dish washing area with hot water, communal ablutions, wifi at reception

Report Check-In

Shielded individual sites with braai and pinnacle around lawn. Maintenance OK. Walking distance from town.
