Description

This is a great place for both camping and lodging. If you are looking for the ‘real deal’ from a Masai experience, this camp can offer it all. They have great facilities and ablutions with brand new WESTERN toilets, hot showers with water from the hot spring, a beautiful new restaurant, and a fire pit. Electricity is available at the restaurant for charging equipment.
Set in 200 acres of land and surrounded by indigenous trees, this camp is a must-stay. Prices vary based on your choice of lodging, meals and activities.

Our intention was only to stay one night but the Masai staff were so welcoming we ended up staying two.

We took part in a great guided walk by a local Masai from the area, showing us all the plants, trees and bushes used for medicinal and personal use, we were shown a local village and educated on the traditional way of life and even completed warrior training.

An activity we wished we had taken part of, was a traditional night out in the bush in ceremonial grounds that are still used by local Maasai, but you need to give some notice..

This camp is uniquely focused on an authentic cultural experience.

Latest Check-Ins

This camp site feels so good with all the very kind authentic people around. How to explain the whole visit?

Best toilets and showers during our 3 weeks trip. Best people around us, best explanation of the Masai culture. Most authentic. Best leader which leads by inspiration to the warriors and other people working at the site. He wants to keep Masai culture alive and show it to the world. For sure do the hiking and visit the school.

Make a reservation in your travel schedule for at least 2 days. If we could do it again we would not have stayed in the Maasai Mara, but would do a day visit and use this camp site as a base camp.

A must visit on your way to the Mara. We have seen many "masaai" experiences before. This one finally feels authentic. We came for one night, we stayed two nights.

The people here are so incredibly friendly. And all prices are included in activities.

We paid $20 camping and $10 for food.

The chief, can't write or read. So when you WhatsApp him, expect to get one of the younger ones to reply.

Really book this one! You won't regret.

Can only self camp here if they have no other guests in their main camp. it's a truly wonderful place but travellers should be aware of this.

As stated. An amazing, authentic, welcoming experience. We came for one night and ended up staying for two. Our children befriended the local children through beading & football respectively. We participated in many daily activities, including milking the goats in the morning. They surprised us with a beautiful laid on bush dinner and a wonderful evening around the fire.

We paid USD 50 pppd (USD 40 for children) including self camping, all meals & all activities. Thoroughly educational for all of us. Highly recommended.

What a beautiful place! We stopped here because it was recommended to us and it was the best decision! Susan and Salaton run a very welcoming camp with nice and clean facilities as well as a very good restaurant. You are not just a guest, you are invited into the Masai Community. We ended up staying two nights and had a wonderful bush dinner under the stars, visit to the Masai kettle market and even got to take part in checking out the hives of their bees in a full bee suit.
This camp does not make you feel like you‘ve ended in a tourist trap but is very authentic. A lot of activities (like a visit to the Masai women‘s village, walk to the hot springs, warrior training and much more) is included in the price, they do not charge you extra for any of this. Highly recommend this place to experience the Masai culture.
We payed 2000ksh pppn which is totally worth it for nice, clean hot showers, western toilets and all the activities that are included as well.

Great place. If you are in the neighborhood it’s well worth to stay at least one night. We stayed on the campsite nice in the shade. Excellent and clean ablution, nice hot shower.

Despite of the comment of a traveler friend of us 😉, we tried it and we were really impressed. The people were so friendly and helpful. Salaton and his wife Susan are very special and kind people. Especially the walk up to the hill/mountain was magic. Just for that it is worth. And the price is really fair. Camping incl. the Maasai programme (village, garden, woman village, dance, hike, ...) 2000 pp, dinner 500 pp, which was delicious. We just loved the place!

The Maji Moto Cultural Camp is new. There is a very nice building with kitchen and lounges and a nice garden with a fireplace. The facilities are new, there are hot showers. Everything is very clean and inviting. The women in the camp are extremely nice and helpful. Somehow we did not get along with the local chef Salaton. We could not agree on the price at first (maybe misunderstanding) and then suddenly we where not sure whether we really support the project with the entrance fee? However, we did not feel comfortable and left. Our advice: Go to this place and check, it's worth it, maybe it was not our and Salaton‘s day!
