Open to all night parking for vehicles up to 20’/7’ in select rows as signed off to the right. Signs say no camping or vehicle habitation but I and others have stayed here without any enforcement, probably helps to be discreet. Last night one asshat did drive around at 4am with his bass speakers cranked but fortunately I’m half deaf and used to waking up often throughout the night so there wasn’t any impact from my perspective.

This parking is not closed, you can stay overnight there. There is a park which has restrooms, showers and drinking water.

Report Check-In

We have stayed in the right side of the parking lot (if looking at the bay) and it’s been great. Very busy during the day but if you park before maybe 9 on a weekend, and after 7pm, you are sure to find a spot. Lots of people who live here full time / partly local. Apparently it’s possible to get a ticket, but I’ve only seen 1 ticket in the week, when someone was parked on the very specified spots that are closed Tuesday morning, not for camping.

So we stayed here all day for two days and went to the little side street at night (San Fernando) to sleep. There is security and police that circle this place but none bothered us. We saw the right side parking lot that many vehicles sat in over night but there is a sign that says no camping in vehicles so we didn’t test it. Bathroom and shower. 1 block to the boardwalk.

We stayed on the far right side of the parking lot for three total nights, but left each morning and came back after sunset. Plenty of other campers around too. Love being so close to the ocean!

Big parking lot that has 72 hours per spot, Tuesdays no Overnight 12am - 6am. Next to water, grass, palm trees, playground, bathrooms & showers open all night long. COMPLETELY FREE. Nice little spot definitely recommend.

Seemed like a good spot when we pulled up around 7. There were about 5 other vans around the lot. However to our surprise we found TWO parking tickets on our window this morning. A parking citation and a parking ticket (we have no idea what the difference is yet). They were issued less than 5 mins apart from each other around 2:30 am by different officers. No knock on the door either. Found out this morning that there is a sign when you enter through the second entrance that says no parking 2-4am. We came in through the first entrance though and didn’t see anything. Our fault but also wish they would have knocked at least... The tickets are not cheap.

Had 165$ in tickets : 52.50$ because the parking is closed from 2 am to 4 am, and 112.50$ because I have a "RV" (medium length Ford Transit). At least 3 others vans had the same tickets.

Report Check-In

This place is permanently closed.

Report Check-In

Stayed 5 nights, but had the knock at 3 am by police to leave on the last night.

Spent two nights in a 24ft RV here. First night was quiet and peaceful. In the second night there were a big student party on the parking.
Police came both nights but we didn’t got a ticket.

Safe and mostly quiet place to sleep, although there are some party teenagers and weird looking people around (stayed a couple nights on the right side of the parking lot where signs say that overnight parking is allowed; sleeping isn't but no problem if you are stealthy, no police or anyone who enforces the rules at this moment). Bathrooms and showers are much nicer in the opposite lot next to the beach!
We saw no signs saying anything about 72 hours!

Update: fourth night police came and tow aways! knocked on all windows, we didn't move. they came back an hour later, we left eventually. oh and we got a ticket.

Basics: Large parking lot with many cars and sprinter/conversion vans. Signs on one side of the lot say, “closed between 2 am - 4 am”. The other side says, “overnight parking allowed for passenger vans but no trailers, RVs, or sleeping/camping”. The website for the parking lot says the lot is closed from “3 am - 4 am”. No security or police, but did not sleep. Street signage for the city of San Diego states that vehicles 21 feet long and over 7 feet tall can’t park on the public streets. Effectively, this outlaws parking sprinter vans on the public streets.

Our experience: At around 11 pm, a drunk couple from off the bay were screaming at each other about cigarettes and the man broke something. Many van conversions and cars coming and going throughout the night like they weren’t sure if they could actually stay because of the signage. Other than that, it was pretty uneventful.

Parking lot along the bay and across the street from the beach. Lots of RVs here along with a few folks living in there car. Don't park along the curb on Tuesday morning. Public bathrooms 200 yards away. perfect place to boondock while in the San Daigo area. Unlike most boondocking parking lots, here you can pull out the chairs and sit on the grass or the beach. We have been here about a week. Very good find.

Report Check-In

This was a great place to stay during the day. some people said that you are allowed to stay for for 3 nights. it was a little noisy at night with teens partying. we ended up moving across the street to sleep.

Report Check-In

This spot is not suitable for RVs there are signs in the parking lot stating that it is for the overnight parking of cars only. The sign states that you are not allowed to sleep in the vehicle and RVs are not allowed to park overnight even if no one is in them.
The parking lot is very exposed to the road so we decided to move elsewhere given the reports of the police being more attentive.

Report Check-In

Very large parking lot close to the beach (with toilets and showers). We were kept awake by some other campers that were screaming in the middle of the night but I think it would have been quiet if they weren't there.

Report Check-In

We spent two nights at this spot. We left during the day to explore San Diego but after sunset the parking lot was wide open. I’m so glad that the city allows this lot! There were other campers, some in vans and some others (like us) in bigger rvs. Ours is 23 ft and we even used the slide out. It’s maybe two blocks from the ocean beach and right on Mission Bay with a nice grassy area. There are bathrooms somewhat close by but might not be open at night. Best to be self contained. Plenty of rvs here, so cops must know about it. No hassles at all. Very quiet in the morning. Would definitely return here.

Report Check-In

Nice 72 hour parking lot. Pretty quiet at night, picnic tables available and right next to the bay. Ok bathrooms and cold showers near by and a more or less a 2 mile walk to Ralph’s grocery store. All in all not too bad!
