Situated in Gila National Forest, open range with view to the Mountains. Good unpaved road, 0.8 mile from US 180. Perfect to see the night sky.
Agree with all other posters. Great little campground, far enough off the highway to leave road noise behind. No trees, just you and the stars!
Report Check-InEverything posted is accurate. 10 sites, pack it out. It is free at this time but a $10 nightly fee ($5 with a park pass) is proposed for 2022, along with 25% of places in the Gila. Who can complain about paying such a nominal fee to have clean vault toilets that need occasional pumping, toilet paper, and this amazing location. But, there are so many pullouts next to and past the cg that it will not be necessary to pay a fee for the exact same area if a fee is imposed.
This is a designated dark sky sanctuary so stargazing is the night time activity. Pull your blinds, draw your curtains, keep it dark and exciting.
Report Check-InFree camping doesn't get much better than this. There are many sites off the main gravel road coming in, off the left side of the road, and four more if you go through the back gate of the official campground. Beyond that you will need high clearance and/or 4wd. If you do, the road goes on for miles. Great road to walk or ride a mountain bike. If you bring dogs, protect their paws because there are a lot of cacti and other things to injure them, as well as sometimes incredibly sticky mud and gravel that will stay in their paws. If you want peace and quiet and dark skies, this is the place!
Report Check-InGreat spot to camp. No shade but not an issue this time of year. 3-4 bars of T-Mobile.
Report Check-InCampground is open however there's many dispersed sites on the road past the campground the road goes for about a mile.
Report Check-InProbably the nicest campsite in the area! Free camping with easy access right off the highway. There are a few dispersed sites along the road before the actual campsite. Looks like a fantastic spot to view the night sky. There is a telescope set up area that looks awesome! I get three bars of Verizon here.
Report Check-InAs wonderful as everybody says, fantastic for those who love looking at the night sky... but for those in tents know it can get very windy. Clean restrooms! 3 bars of T-Mobile!
Report Check-InQuiet and nice place to stay.
A lot of dispersed camping spaces (with fire spots) on the road to the official campground, so I guess it's okay to use them during COVID pandemic (because the campground itself is "closed").
Got phone signal but no internet.
Report Check-InBack dirt roads are rugged at the moment, dried but rough. You will need a little clearance to get to the back sites. The 6 main sites are car friendly.
Report Check-InThere are several dispersed campsites before you enter the small campground. The sites in the campground are very close together. There also appears to be dispersed campsites on the dirt road beyonf the campground. The views to the south are amazing. We had excellent Verizon service here.
Report Check-InHad the place to ourselves. Easy gravel road to the sites. There are also some concrete platforms for setting up telescopes to view the night skies.
Report Check-InQuiet, free campground with pit toilet. Water nearby in the Glenwood ranger station.
