Took a permit 10$ for the year!!! That help to pay the service man. Free side is more like for permanent campers with full of garbage around

Report Check-In

Take Retention Rd off highway 87 to the beach. Hard packed sand and for enough from high tide line. Plenty of trash receptacles in the area. You will need a beach parking sticker for each vehicle. these can be found at "The Big Store" about 8 miles north on 87.

Superbe Nice Beach. Hard packed. No problems with a 38 ft fifthwheel. If you go left, free access.

Report Check-In

We had a really nice sleep to the sounds of the waves and very pretty view from the travel trailer parking right on the wet hard-enough sand. Garbage bins and two porta potties at the entrance. RVs about every 20 feet, spaced enough for our comfort during winter month February.

Just pulled up for the night. Pull to the left for free beach parking. Few others here. Unfortunately we settled right beside the “generator” guy. Amazing sunset, stars, and view of the vessels out on the water.

Great beach to camp on. Once the road ends head to the left for the free parking/wanting. You don’t need a permit. If you take a right, that is they area where a permit is required.

Report Check-In

Good access and hard pack sand. This is near wildlife area so not like further north with all the residential houses lining the beach. Lots of big rigs. Potty as you pull in and trash barrels throughout. Lots of seaweed on shore, less as you go north. Good Verizon LTE

Two beaches, see photos. The one to the left is free, the one to the right requires a sticker parking permit. We tried to buy one but arrived at The Big Store at 3:10 and they would not sell them after 3 pm.
They are $5 until Feb. 28 for early purchase and $10 after that. Nice beach, very hard-packed sand with only 3 other units on the extensive free beach. Great sunrises! Clean, just serviced porta john, close to free Galveston Ferry.

Report Check-In

Clean, wide, enough room for many rv's. We stay in at Christmas eve. And love it.

Report Check-In

Got in an hour after dark (the ferry took about 1.5 hours including lining up and boat ride). Sand nicely packed, easy drive, a fair number of people overnight, but enough room to be maybe 200-300 yards away from neighbors. Lots of seashells! Saw lots of reviews, but luckily very few tonight (October). Slept in car. Woke up to a stunning ocean sunrise.

Report Check-In

Packed and flat sand beach, easy to drive on even with 2WD. There was a lot of garbage on the beach unfortunately but it was still nice and very quiet at night. All around a great spot, especially considering the cost!

We didn’t get a permit as we couldn’t find the store that sold them, sherif drove by to check things out but didn’t stop at our van.

Super packed sand! Made me feel super safe in my 2WD Sprinted. Anything could drive here. There is a portta potty but I would avoid it at all costs. I didn’t get a permit and wasn’t bothered. Met another guy who said it was off season so no permit needed. I would say park away from the swampy areas near the entrance on the right. Lots of mosquitos but another person I talked to didn’t have any issues. There is trash but do you part and pick some up! I thought it was a great place. Had a nice run in the morning. It’s a bay so the water is super calm with no waves. Super pretty sunset.

purchased the 10 dollars permit in local grocery store. The beach is few miles long, plenty of space to camp. Water is muddy and I did not try to swim.

Report Check-In

Beautiful large beach. Easy to turn around. 3 other vehicles on the beach when we were there.

We stayed here for two nights before moving on to Crystal Beach. There was a lot of garbage on the beach. FYI when we were there the Big Store had permits all week long so I'm not sure why the previous poster said it was only Thur-Sun.

We stayed overnight here while traveling up the Gulf coastline. Pulled in, turned left, went 150 yards and parked by the dunes. It was cloudy and foggy during out stay, which was very short. The next morning, we ate breakfast, did a quick walk up the beach, found lots of shells. Would stop here again for overnight

After you get down the road to the beach you turn left for the free beach and right for the permit beach. Free beach goes for about a quarter mile until you hit a ditch.

We were going to do the permit beach but in January and February you can only get permits on the island at the big store Thursday through Sunday. We arrived on a Monday. Permits are only $5 until March. After March they go up to $10 and I think you can get them more places anytime.

Not sure anyone checks permits on this end of the island - at the far end of the permit beach it looks like a couple of rigs are living there long term.

Anyways there was a party on the beach the first night we were here but other than that it was quiet. There are plenty of trash cans. There is a port-a-potty but it was a bit icky.

Report Check-In

Nice flat beach with plenty of space to park and camp. We did not buy a pass and saw this sign (pictured) that says free beach access so I don’t think you need a pass here

Report Check-In

Been here many times. Best time for any camping is Monday-Thursday. Weekends can get busy and annoying. People come in late night until early morning to go fishing. Make sure to check the tide charts before camping. Hard packed sand so anything can drive on it. There is one portapoty. Nothing else. When you hit the beach, to the right you are supposed to have a pass and to the left you don’t need one. Very minimal cell signal for T-Mobile. It’s okay during the day but doesn’t work at all during the night.

Report Check-In

Awesome hard packed beach camping. Really flat surprisingly and we didn’t have an issue sinking at all. The morning sunrise was absolutely amazing. The sheriff even came down this morning and parked and didn’t say anything to us. Porta potty and trash bins on your way in. LTE Verizon worked great.
