The parking of the Dune 7 was taking over by the Nationalpark authorities (Dec.22?)!
They have even build a gate with a guard! Foreigners (non Africans) have to pay now NS 150 pP entree fee. The vehicles comes in top (a truck NS 500!)!
Namibians & SADC pay less.... but neverless now the dunes are almost completely deserted!
Father and son run dune ride business on quad bikes open from 9am to 6pm. Not really a campsite but a great place to stop over and cheap with security. They are both great people very helpful and mechanically clever.
The pkace is locked with tight security after the close.
Food is simple cafe menu for the quad riders, but nice if you are late and just dont want to cook.
Beer and drinks available,
Free fast wifi and yoj can sit in the covered area out of the wind.
Trains and road noise but nothing to bad. Nice dune views.
The south african Dakar rally teams come here to practice/test so you may get a treat. Dont be put off by the open area at the front they have a compund out back for camping. Big rigs OK.
Toilets clean and badic, no showers.
Wanted to try next door (SA restaurant) however it was all locked up so we came to Dune 7 parking lot. We were the only ones here. The washrooms are a disaster and haven’t been looked after in a long time. Full of crap in broken toilets, so skip those. There are palm trees and concrete picnic tables. We had a quiet night and fortunately have our own porta-potti. Ok stop for the night. We tried the bird sanctuary beach first however the winds were too high, so came here and were sheltered from the wind by the dune.
Report Check-InWe stopped here for one night. Quiet and no problems. Nobody came while we were there.
Report Check-Innice quiet night. A guy came and checked the abolition block, but didn't say anything and left.
Report Check-InWe slept 2 nights here, twice. The first time, we had no problems (a few wind, some people came on the evening but it was quiet during the night), and the second time, we saw a ranger in a national park’s car and he said to us that
we’re not alowed to camp here overnight!
We had planned to stay here for the night, one of the only places to wild camp near Walvis Bay, but when we arrived there were many local parties happening and we didn't feel safe there. It was a Saturday evening though so it may be different during the week.
It seemed a nice, fairly sheltered spot with toilets and some braai facilities
