Latest Check-Ins

We visited in October 2023 with our Landcruiser HZJ78.
We were initially satisfied with the work, even though everything was delayed a bit. But they were friendly and accommodating and seemed to be doing a good job.
We had vibrations while driving and they only seemed to get better. The front axle also leaked. A short time later the vibrations came back and got worse and worse.
Now after 6000km in La Paz, Bolivia, we had to go back to a workshop. Serious deficiencies in Lima's work were identified here. The front axle oil was mixed with the fat of the freewheel hubs because too much was used and not every parts were replaced. The freewheel hubs are broken now.
Some parts, that we even brought in ourselves, were not replaced.

We can no longer recommend the workshop after the discoveries here in La Paz. It was crazy expensive for all these failures.

They made time straight away and our car was done the next the end of the day. Perfect way to explore lima. And when we got back the car was washed also.

Advice: ask to pay in cash then you get a discount.

Best mechanic in Lima we know of. They do quality work, are trustworthy, and have experience with over landing vehicles. They have been knowledgable and helpful not just mechanically, but in several aspects of prepping our overlanding vehicle from scratch. We worked primarily with Richi. Francisco is excellent and speaks English. Everyone there was friendly and interested in helping us.

Great place for repairs or maintenance in Lima. A bit expensive, paid 250S for an oil change but they let me leave my car there for 4 days while I explored lima, washed and vacuumed the car and were very helpful trying to solve a problem with my speedometer. Did not fix it and did not charge me for the work. Ask for Francisco for assistance in English.

Juan is one of the owners who actually does speak English. His brother who is the other owner does not. Juan is an Overland and mountain biker. Can’t recommend this place highly enough.

This is an awesome place. You won’t be able to fit a big rig in here but our truck camper which is 2.7 m tall fit fine. One of the owners speaks English but he isn’t around much so if you don’t speak any Spanish good luck. This is a great place to get all sorts of stuff done on overland vehicles from oil changes to suspension work. I don’t think they really charge US prices but if you’re worried you can always get a quote ahead of time.

We've been staying here for 3 nights now, they have a little area upstairs with a microwave, mini fridge, sink and coffee machine. Phillipe speaks perfect English and is very helpful. Many many rich people with awesome off-roading rigs getting ready for the Dakar rally so it is really busy. We got all new ball joints, control arms, tie rods, alignement and tire rotation for 2000soles. We paid cash and got a discount. It is one of the more expensive shops, but for non Spanish speakers like us it is nice being able to communicate and understand what is going on. The repairs were well worth it the car feels smooth and safe. Since we've been here for a while the owner and his family invited us to go watch the Dakar rally with them!

We made good experiences with firewheels. We had a tricky problem to fix with our eberspaecher heater and they were helpful in working with us to diagnose and come up with solutions. One of their mechanics speaks perfect English and worked with us on it. I did have to be very specific about what I want but they got it done. Their normal clientele are rich people from Lima. They charge almost American prices but they have scanners and a many tools you wouldn't find any other place. One thing to note: the price they quoted us was without VAT, so add another 15% on top of it. They let you sleep in the car overnight if the repairs take longer.

Report Check-In

Unfortunately we made really bad experiences with Firewheels. They overlooked / did not fix the real problems of our car. In the end we had to go to another garage to get the car fixed. This garage then also noted that the guys from firewheels damaged some parts. Also the new clutch firewheels put in was not properly installed so that we got other problems only 2000 km later.
The prices firewheels charged us for easy work like oil change were a ripp-off! In addition they did not adhere to deadlines. So they told us at 2 subsequent days the car is ready but it wasn't. So we had to stay another night in a Hotel..

Team was able to fit us in to their very busy schedule, and were happy to sell us, and fit new shockabsorbers all round. Seem very competent
