Nice place, the floor is flat, close to the city and near the river. We camp here one night. You can visit the prison. Really clean (march 2024).
Abandoned prison. Very special place. Good to visit. And we camped in one of the “gardens”, on the left when you enter. There is a grassy place where you can see firewood. Creepy on your own but quiet place for a group/couple.

Report Check-InNo recomendable fuimos a inspeccionar y hay un tipo viviendo ahí , está súper sucio, además intentamos hablarle pero solo hacia sonar cosas fuerte así que nos asustamos y preferimos salir de ahí
Report Check-Inthis is more of an attraction than a sleeping place in my opinion. Really dirty inside but worth a trip!
Report Check-InWe didn‘t stay here. It‘s interessting to visit this lost place, but I wouldn‘t like to stay here inside (it‘s really dirty, lots of shattered glas) and also the gardens are (in our opinion) not the best for tent camping. Outside there is one spot for 1 or 2 rigs, but also not very likable, so we moved another 11km to Playa Santa Barbara, which we highly recommend.
Report Check-InGreat place next to the river on the northwest limit of town.
Four of us strung hammocks up between the bars in the cells.
Warm and dry despite the rain in the night.
No services but potable water was leaking from the fire hydrant outside.
Abandoned during the volcano eruption of 2008, the doors are open.
I stayed 2 nights with the bike parked out front without problem but it's possible to park in the garden using the side gate.
It's distant from the houses so I see no problem for parking up big rigs.
A block away is a museum site of half buried buildings which is worth a look.
During the day, I padlocked the cell while I explored the town.
Creepy like we like !
we find a "room/cell" without pieces of glasses on the floor to sleeping in a dry zone, there is even a improvised stove.
