Latest Check-Ins

We have been at Camping Matilda yesterday and asked for camping with a car and they said that they do not want to have campers anymore.

Report Check-In

Confirmed... they don't want to receive guests at all, very unfriendly. They have electricity but it is charge separately. We negotiate 15 dollars per night por my wife and 2 kids. Nevertheless the beach is awesome!

Muy antipáticos... nos cobraron 15 dólares por noche (2 adultos y 2 niños). La playa es muy linda!

I am talking about the camping NEXT to Camping Matilda. Camping Matilda itself was closed. It is a nice place directly on a great beach. Most guests were young surfers. I cannot confirm that the place is unfriendly. The lady that looks after the place was welcoming and very nice.

Worse place i've been in 2 years of travelling. US$ 10.-/night. No electricity, no Wifi, very unfriendly, lot of trash, dirty bathroom, noisy because of locals having a party, cold shower, tried to cheat me with the exchange rate and checkout at 9.00 am !!!

A basic but secure campground at Playa Matilda. Very basic outdoor kitchen (wood fire only), cold water shower and flushing toilet. You camp just behind a fence on the beautiful beach. Was very peaceful and felt safe, there's a security patrol at night. Cost $7 per person per night. 10 minute walk to Playa Maderas and a far better option than staying at Cafe Revolution. Note you can't drive here directly from Playa Maderas, you have to go back around via Playa Majagual.

Report Check-In

Great location but no infrastructure. The lady in the camping was a bit rude with us. No wifi, salty water and lots of monkeys. They did a huge party on the trees over our rig and used ou car as bathroom. Wind and sandy. We paid 10 USD per day.

Report Check-In

Stayed here for 4 nights. Camping area is fenced with lighting and a security guard. Beach is one of the best but the surf is rough. For calmer waters walk 100 feet back to the road and turn left to the smaller beach at the end of the retaining wall. Great sunset views and call

Report Check-In

Nice sand lot just off the beach. We paid 100N per person ($8 total) per night.

very narrow entrance, rustic but right on the sandy beach.

Price: $ 8.33

Report Check-In

Camping next to Matilda's Hostel on Playa Maderas. Bathrooms with cold water shower in the hostel, gate was closed at night so had to walk to the beach entrance of the hostel to use them. No internet, no electricity.

Price: 100 cordobas/person (total $8/night).

Report Check-In

We could be at a dead end in front of the camp, as we were too big for the driveway. No infrastructure. Very quiet, nice bay for swimming.

Bad dirt road about 12 km from the town of San Juan, turn right. Not suitable for large RVs!

Report Check-In

This beach is as nice as they come. Camping Mathilda is about 20 minutes driving out of town, and can be a bit tricky to find. You camp almost directly on the beach behind a fence. Facilities are across the road (dead ends here) in the guesthouse (cabañas and dorms). You can walk along the beach from here to good surf beach with a restaurant and surf board rentals. We ended up staying more than a week...

Price: 200 quetzales

Report Check-In

From San Juan del Sur you have to drive a few kilometers north on a gravel road. Fantastic campground in a small bay with golden sand and high waves. You camp under shady trees with small palapas and rustic wooden chairs. Cold shower and pit toilet in the hostel next door. Book Exchange.
