Description

The purchase price (65.000 (nov 2023) per person) includes admission for two days, two museums and 6 tomb locations that are accessed by trails. You can see one, a few or all in two days. Each has a guard, guide and some print materials in English and Spanish. Take water, good shoes, a flashlight, umbrella and camera. Non-flash photos are okay. And as a special treat, dogs are welcome on the trails and can wait in the shade while you climb into each tomb.
This place is hard to get to, tough to find parking for big rigs. (Tip: you need clearance for the messy highway under constant construction and if your rig is too tall for the marked spots, there are some roadside spots to park, or the church park in Inza is level)

Awesome 15km loop to see five archeological sites and a great museum.
Wellington boots would be ideal footwear to walk the loop, especially on or after a rainy day.
65,000 Cop for foreigners. Only accept cash/ no debit/ credit cards.
Super welcoming and friendly staff.
Unfortunately, we weren’t able to park in the car park overnight, but the hotel up the road kindly let us park there for the night.

The price is 65.000 now, a bit expensive considering Colombian prices. I think the price is just for one day. But the entrance is free on the last Friday of the month, it turned out I was lucky…

Anyway worth a visit, >2000 year old history. Mostly paved road if you come from La Plata. The last part is dirt road, accesible for all kind of vehicles, I did it on a loaded bicycle…

My advice start in the morning. At 13:30 I was too late to visit all the sites. The sites close at 16:00, or earlier if the security guard wants to go home…You need a couple hours to hike from site to site. Make a day hike out of it and visit the indigenous town San Andres which is basically in the center of the hike.

Really interesting parque !!! We made 3 sites in 2 days, we arrived at 14h30 and we just made alto de segovia , so its was too late for an other one, we parked near the church with the acceptance of the owner of the tienda and the next morning we made alto de San Andres and El Tablon.

They charge the normal price again (50k COP pp for foreigners). Awesome site, needs lots of time (1 day at least if you want to see all).

Update on park/and road leading there:
Nov, 2021.

- Park; the park has a 14km circuit with different archeological sites along the way. A few of them are closed due to COVID but there are 8 tombs that are open now (last month only 3 were open). The circuit includes one site (El Tablón) that has well maintained statues. We paid 38K each and the visit was wonderful and hot. We only did half of the circuit; from the main entrance of the park to the town (7km) and caught the last car going back to La Plata at 3pm from San Andres. Lunch at La posada restaurant was yummy.

Road: the road from La Plata is smooth and feels like brand new. There are some tiendas and comedores along the road up to Ricuarte. However the paved road ends and the last 13km before the park’s entrance are a mix of gravel and bumpy dirt road that turns into smoother well-packed dirt for the last 2km from the park. The last section is pretty remote so no lots of tiendas.

The hike around the park can be pretty challenging if you are not used to walking - add the heat and some pretty steep climbs. So go with time.

We paid 35K per person because the museum was closed for remodeling. When you get to the burial chambers be prepared to be sprayed from head to toe with alcohol. They only let you in to the smaller chambers and 2/3 of them were closed for COVID? The first half of the hike is steep but paved. The second half could be very muddy if it’s rained a lot. If you don’t want to hike up steep path you can take a bus and have them drop you off at the top of the hill and you can walk down.

entrance fee is still 50.000pp (no reduction for seniors)- only cash. open every day 8am-4pm (first tuesday every month is closed). we spent 3.30h for the 2small museums, alta de segovia and alto de duende. than we parked our camper van at el tablon (hardly enough space, even harder to turn around!). tomorrow we walk to alto de san andres and alto de aguacate. we were told it is more shadowy from the village and takes 90-120min one way.

The site as a whole meets international standards. If you are interested in history, it’s well worth a visit.
BTW: 13 km dirt road, a bit bumpy in short sections, but overall more than adequate.

Report Check-In

Not worth the money and the drive over the bad road that leads to this site.
