Report Check-InPark has been closed for about a month now for safety reason. Lots of seismic activity. No idea when they open. Park ranger was not that happy that we spent a night here.
Report Check-InSpent a cool night on the traffic island just before the entrance. Quiet at night, police came by a few times but didn't disturb us.
Report Check-InWe spent a quiet and cold night here. Police drove by twice but said nothing. It is important to enter the park early as the crater was clouded at 9.30!
Report Check-InWe stayed at the "Service" road next to the entrance. Very quiet and not windy because we were protected by the trees. We were Lucky with the view of the volcano although it was 2:00 pm and rainy Season. The clouds were around the Peak but the crater was clear. I would Check at the entrance and ask the rangers if the view is clear or not. Entrance is really expensive 15$ pp + 3$ for the vehicle. But we found it was worth it.
Report Check-InWe stayed overnight on the grassy traffic island in front of the gate, to was a bit windy. It is just important to visit the park early in the morning, after 10 or 11 a.m. it will become very cloudy and you'll see nothing! Cars start up to line up at the entrance gate at 7.30 a.m.!
Report Check-InParkend also on the Island. Nice cold and windy night. Free 15$ per Person; 1500 Córdoba Parking.
Report Check-InParked at gate, guard said it was ok to park on island in the grass. It was nice and quiet, cool rainy night. The tourist buses started lining up at 8am to get in park. $15us/pp entrance. Beautiful views of crater and a nice little hike around a second crater.
Report Check-InAt the entrance to Poas Volcano NP. side of the road, but it is the opening time of 8 clock in the Park (later there are clouds).
Price: Free
Report Check-InThe access road to the volcano is closed from 3.30pm - 8am. We pulled out to the forest road in front of the entrance gate, and parked on the side about 20 meters further down the road (behind the sign, which prohibits trespassing). Very quiet at night. Clean toilets can be used in the park the next morning. Admission to nationalpark: US $ 10 / person plus US $ 3 / vehicle.$
Alternative option:
Recreation area Bosques de Fraijanes, N 10.12394 W 84.18823, 1,703 m, 9,000 colones (14,00 €). Very nice recreational park. We still moved on since the announced WIFI did not work and the toilets were extremely dirty.
