This is one of the campgrounds inside the Salton Sea State Recreational Area.
It has full hookups for 30 dollars and dry camping for 20 dollars. Seniors get 2 dollars discount. Hot showers two minutes for a quarter. Flush toilets are clean.
This campground is similar to the Mecca Beach campground, 3 km south, but that one was closed because of a water problem.
We could enter without reservation but at the weekends it can be full.
T-mobile LTE signal, but not very fast.
There is wifi but we did not try it.
It’s a nice place. We stayed two nights.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Checked in for 3 nights but stayed 6. A lovely place to just relax and recharge the travelling batteries.
Interesting history to the area in the visitor centre. Gorgeous sunsets.
Great toilets which were well stocked, checked and very clean. Good showers (token operated) and plenty of hot water.
Very quiet with just one or two others in the New Camp area.
Great location for seeing Joshua Tree NP as well.
Report Check-InNice campsite with palms and trees, visitor center with a lot of information about Salton Sea. Friendly and helpful staff. Prices as described. Showers are not included, so you have to buy Tokens, 1 $ for 2 minutes. Showers near visitor center not in use, so we changed site to another area. Wifi slow and works only near visitor center. So you never have all the things at one place.
Report Check-InTrains, but no crossings. So, no whistles, no bells. Just gradual sound increase then decrease.
Report Check-InVery well kept campground. No garbage, which is real nice!! $30/night with full hookups and $20/night for dry camp. Wifi works good from where we are in lot #1.
Trains steady though so might not be great for a light sleeper. Token showers. Not good for swimming.
Enjoyable stay and great staff at the park!!
Nice place. It is close to the train tracks so bring earplugs for sleeping. Showers and bathrooms are nice. The visitor center is informative, and the ranger we spoke to was very knowledgeable about the Salton Sea.
