Something not right?

Description

Esmeralda Beach access road with a perfect little sheltered campsite under a (random) stand of palm trees. 5km from the military checkpoint on Mex 1. The intersection is right in front of the military check point, so stop there first. Road is sandy but 2WD can easily make it. Some fire rings are here. 5 min walking to the beach with whale bones, and unlimited hiking in all directions.

Really cool location, as another person said it’s a little awkward with the checkpoint right there but the guard was very nice and let us turn around to get in. Plenty of places to camp out and heard some coyotes walk right past our van at night which was cool

Camped at this spot in my truck and pop-up tent. A bit awkward to get to as the military check point is right there but I crossed coming north from Guerrero Negro and then did a U turn and headed onto the dirt road. The stand of palm trees is a fantastic spot to make a base, although closer to the beach would have been nice too if it hadn’t been so windy. Hiked and explored around the beach and desert, with a private fishing camp (private property sign visible on the beach) if you turn left. Saw no one except friendly truck on the beach ripping around. Palm trees is a nice place to make camp as it stands out from a distance and you are able to orient yourself as you explore. Herd of a dozen cows and bulls wandering around, lots of neat plants to look at, bones on the beach, shore birds. I was able to gather enough wood from the ground to make a fire for several hours. Would reccomend!

Road was still washed out heading towards the beach, smaller 2wd would make it easily but it was too narrow for an RV.

Spent last night here and spent the entire day today wandering for miles throughout the surrounding desert, sand dunes, and beaches. Found whale bones, multiple dead seals, tons of crazy volcanic rocks, Joshua tree forests, and more new plant species than I’ve seen anywhere else in Baja. This place is canvassed with random dirt roads, the campsite possibilities are endless.

We tried to camp in the San dunes at Guerro Negro but the military has set up a blockade and said we were not allowed to pass, so we drove an hour up here to camp. Passed through the military checkpoint going north, then had to drive 1/2 mile, turn around, drive back to the checkpoint, then take a right onto this dirt road. Road is about 2.5 miles of ruts and sand but is easily passable at normal speed with a 2WD Sprinter. Marines at the checkpoint said it was fine to camp out here.

I was looking for Campo Esmeralda and found this spot instead. Some one said, Campo Esmeralda is closed, but I didn't checked this.

Windy but nice place at Esmeralda Beach, little sheltered under palm trees. 5 km from Mex 1, the intersection is right in front of the military check point, so stop there first. Road is sandy and a bit rough, but 2WD can make it. Some fire rings are here. 5 min walking to the beach with whale bones.
