Description

At the end of the paved road and beginning of a steep dirt road going down in the gorge. Easier to come via US68 than from 567 although we made it without issues with our 2WD campervan with great views. The spot itself offers great views both at sunset and when the sun rises over the mountains. Couple of locals driving by and waving hi with a smile. 10 minutes away from earthship and a little more to Taos town.

Latest Check-Ins

We stayed the night here with no issues, but in the morning a guy working for the Forest Service stopped to tell us that camping was not allowed at this location. He said a BLM officer would give us a ticket if they saw us. He said the BLM land to the north of this site (look for the power lines) is fine to spend the night.

Great spot for the night. There are pullouts on both sides of the road. Decent Verizon service.

Great Place to park for a night, you wake up to some fantastic views and you also can go for a morning hike since its also a trailhead

We took a left just after the beginning of the dirt road, before you ascend into the gorge. We parked at the end of the road. BE CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT. We came up the hill a bit and stopped, realizing that road was ending because there is a cliff into the gorge. Camped near the edge, woke up to a nice sunrise. No truly level spots for tents. We saw 2 locals riding bikes past us in the morning around 8, so if you sleep/enjoy living naked...just be conscious of the potential human traffic lol. Nice spot though! Oh, if it has rained your car will be squirrelly in the sand but the dirt road is passable in any slightly raised vehicle.
