Description

We wanted to visit the archeological site Hualco and as there was nobody we ended up in this increbly beautiful red-rock canion with crystal-clear fresh water pools!

Next to the parking lot you can see the first pools and to get to this point one needs to follow the stream uphill for around 150 meters.

There is a big deep pool with a stone beach surrounded by vertical rock of the canion and a big tree provides shade.

To get further up the canion one needs to swim through the pool and climb the small waterfall on its end. From this point it gets adventurous and more and more beautiful. We went up for around 1 km and there are plenty of pools, waterfalls, cactus and untouched nature!

After driving across miles and miles of dry desert this oasis was a great stop for us. On a Friday afternoon there was a building crowd of people but not overwhelming.

Parking was safe.

Nice clean cool water that was enjoyed.

Recommended.

A lot of parking space to leave your car. The pools are amazing, what a beautiful location with clean water to swim! You just walk down the stairs behind the food area and follow the path. The first two pools are very nice, you can walk further to explore more.

Road ok now from both side, you have to go behind the cafétéria of the museum where there is the stairs and hop you can swam more in the 2nd pool. Refreshing, not the best if you have like us lots of people for so tiny spaces but you can really enjoy if it's hot weather.

Very cool and free spot for a refreshing dip on hot summer days!

We went up to the second pool, the water was not at all dirty. It’s in general a little bit brown-ish but nothing bad. We enjoyed it a lot!

The toilets at the entrance were disgusting though, not clean at all, we floor, no tp…

Wowww!! This is such a paradise!! Make sure you turn at San Blas as the next bridge South is broken. 5km of perfect asphalted road and you reach paradise. You really want to go a bit further in the canyon (don't stay at the first pool). We went up 150 metres to the second big pool with a tree and a small cascade. we were alone even though there was 25 persons down in the first pool. I went then by myself upper and it is a very nice canyoning hike. In less than 30 minutes you will reach a point where the canyon divides and you can not go futher up by following the creek and there is a 5-7 meter fall on the left, a private sandy beach, lot of shadows and trees and a nice big pool. This is heaven. Before that many falls and amazing pools. No garbage past the second big pool. Water is perfect cold and clear (slightly brown). I did the mistake of going bare foot in the middle of the day...and come back with crazy blisters underneath my both feet. Use your brain, use your sneakers. Still worth it 200%%!!!

We did like it a lot ! The water is not very clean and lot of people were swimming but the surrounding are beautiful.

Beautiful canyon. Fun to hike/climb/swim up. But water is pretty dirty, lots of moss and dead fish.

Paradise! So worth the detour from ruta 40. We slept at the museum parking lot. People are soooo friendly and nice. Amazing natural pool in the middle of the cânion, there are plenty of them actually, just need to explore the place to find them. Perfect cold water, so hot during the day, incredible afternoon. Highly recommended!!! Bring with you all the water you will need. The water they have is not potable, there is not much for them and there is not enough pressure to fill a tank, anyways. There are toilets and shower available, but not really clean.

Wow! One of the hidden gems of Argentina. Make this side trip at all costs. Next to the archaeological site is access to a river that flows through a canyon with many awesome swimming spots along the way. Walk a bit further upstream to get to the best spot with a massive tree/space to swim. Plenty of shade and rocks to jump off into the water. Worth going early in the morning if you want to barefoot venture up the canyon as the rocks get pretty toasty later on in the day. Spent ten or so hours here exploring and chilling. Bonus points if you bring some bags in and take some rubbish out with you - there's bins next to the archaeological site.

Yes yes yes! We are so happy we made this side trip. Beautiful canyon with fresh water. Very refreshing after a long hot drive. The archeological site and museum take about an hour according to the docent and are 100 pesos pp. did not visit them as we just wanted to relax and cool off. Highly recommend.
