Description

The Congo Nile Tail is a beautiful route that can be done by foot or mountain bike. You cannot drive the trail anymore with a 4x4. Multiple bridges are missing (2023). There are ways to do it by bike or foot. Can highly recommend!

Latest Check-Ins

The Congo Nile trail is NOT suitable for 4x4's. For those interested in doing it by bike.

We parked our car at Iliza Campsite in Kibuye (free parking).

We took the boat from Kibuye to Gisenyi with some detours (Napoleon island, Monkey island, Hot Springs) for 170k RWF (4 people).

We stayed at Inzu Lodge in Gisenyi for 1 night (rooms 55.000 RWF per room).

Then we had bikes delivered by Lava Bike Tours. They have NEW Trek Mountainbikes (high quality). The bikes came with repair kits and helmets. And we're delivered at Inzulodge day before. We went without a guide - but in hindsight would recommend it. We paid $75 per bike for 3 days (Low season price!!!!). With Guide and accommodation and food it's $295,- a person. Sounds like a lot but - we did everything separately and almost paid the same. Bu then no guide... His number: +250 727 156 110

First day Strava said we 55k while the route is 38k. Not an easy right. Stayed at Kimunu Guesthouse Base Camp. Beautiful lodge with good food ($45 with breakfast 2 people)

Second day (easier then day 1). We stayed at Bumba Base camp (45000 rwf with breakfast 2 people). We arranged a pick up from the Koko river for 30.000 as last climb is though (and it rained) Number is here: +250 783 171 757.
