Reached after a sandy 4x4 track, this nice campsite lies directly at the river Kwando in well-kept surroundings with donkey-fired ablutions, dishwashing areas and braai stands, boat trips can be organized through Camp Kwando, firewood and homemade jelly for sale, we were completely on our own during our visit
150N$pp
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
It looks like it is this camp that is closed and not Camp Kwando just nearby as mentionned on Camp Kwando page
Report Check-InOnly one other set of campers here. Very quiet and almost no mozzies at this time of year. When driving to the site there was a knee deep water crossing next to the old bridge. An alternative route is to turn left just before the water crossing. Go about 200m then turn right. You will come across 2 signs. The 2 wheel route is a water crossing so take the 4 x 4 route as it goes around the edge of the marsh
Report Check-InNice nature paradise with basic ablutions (you have to share) , outside showers with hot water, clean.
The friendly staff cleaned everything in the early morning again.
You can hear the hippos in the Kwando river.
NAD200 ppn (a little bit overpriced)
NAD20 for good firewood
We had a wonderful stay at Maylo. The camp is really well maintained with grass and view on the Kwando River.
The camp was easy to reach as you have 2 ways: 1 for 4x4 and another for 2x4. We had no water to cross has it was the dry season.
Each campsite (8 in total) has his own hot shower, sink, fire pit, braai and bathrooms. You cam also sleep in safari tents.
We saw a lot of birds in the camp, hippos and buffalos next to the river!
The new french manager Luke, propose walks in the bush with San trackers!! A very special and rich experience that you cant find anywhere else! James the tracker is amazing, he can recongnize any footprint!
Luke also wants to develop horse safaris. You can contact him at: 816195381.
We payed 200$ pppn.
We warmly recomand this place!
Lovely basic camp on the banks of the Kwando River.
2.8 KM away from mainroad, Access only wigth 4x4 (but no deflated tyres). No water crossing necessary when I was there. Keep left in front of the old bridge - there is a sign.
At least 10 campspots under trees. 4 ablutions blocks with toilet and water (hot water from the donkey).
Kitchen Sinks here and there, as well as braai drums.
No electricity.
No WiFi - but 3 G signal with MTC
Camping is 130 pppn. Absolutely worthwhile in my opinion.
Report Check-InPrice is now 130 NAD pppn. A real state own run camp with basic facilities. Location is nice, camp is huge we were the only guests camping. Drive there is for big rigs a challenge. Branches are very low, and the bridge is not existing anymore so you have to drive a little up the river there is a good place to cross. Water was 40-50 cm deep. Staff is friendly and there is a night guard.
Report Check-InHuge shady place. Facilities are minimal but OK. The staff is really nice and want the best for you.
130ppN is a bit overpriced. To reach the camp you have to cross a river (keep right left it is fairly deep). The acessroad is very sandy.
Quiet camp on the river with lots of reeds. N$130pp and Boniface, the friendly caretaker, lights it up as preferable. Only one here!
