Latest Check-Ins

Check-in was fairly easy. However, you are not given a map. They encourage you to pay $20 USD for their book. However, the signage in the park is so poor that there's no frame of reference. Be aware of the multitude of safari tracks. Drop pins so you don't get lost.

The camp sites are basic and fairly close to each other. They do have shade, water tap, trash can, and braa. Ablution blocks are fairly clean but full of biting ants. They have hot and cold water for showers.

We saw a large pride of lions (about 11) the first morning. Several newborn impala were learning to run. Lots of bird life and hippos. Some deep water crossings, so be careful.

Very nice campsite, yes it's expensive, but the wildlife is nice and pretty close. The campsites are really big and have long distance to the next one (better than third bridge). We stayed on no.8 and think it's one of the best. Well shaded but not to dark. We had a Hippo walking along the car in the first night and a warthog group on the second day. Also wild dogs staying around. Other wildlife we saw was lions, leopard, elephants, hippos, monkeys, zebras and all kind of antilopes and bush bocks you can imagine. Abolutions were clean and fresh painted.

Not so an amazing place. Very expensive for what you get ! The parc is beautiful but you can just stay for the day. Don't expect to find anything other than toilets and showers, even on the road.

Report Check-In

We booked one night and ended up staying two because we only realized inside the park that we payed the park entry for an extra day by mistake. The lady at the campsite let us stay an extra night even though she thought it was fully booked, however, there were only two other campers that night. They probably have a bit of a confusion with their booking system. Nevertheless, the campsite is very nice, we had a hippo visit us every night, and the ablutions were well kept and clean.

Honestly do not recommend coming moremi when you can drive kwai for free. We booked 9 and 10 campsites a week prior and upon arriving was told that everything was already booked out and we will not even get the sites we initially booked. They blamed covid saying there are a lot of old bookings showing up and not their fault for double booking everyone. What a waste of money.

North gate to here is okay with maps me dry road detour. Half of paradise pools, dead tree and many places not accessible at this time of year. Save your money and just visit Kwai, where we saw lions, leopard, and all the wildlife you could want in 3 days instead of this section, where we spent 270 pp in camping fees, 275 pp in day fees and 75 per car every day.

Very nice campsite with great views. We didn't see a lot of wildlife but two elephants, red lechwes and lots of birds.
They advise not to walk to the ablutions at night. Choose a good spot when you are with a rooftoptent.
We stayed only one night. Consider staying multiple nights if you want the time to do some game drives or just wait for the wildlife at the campsite.

Because of the rain it was very difficult to get to and from the campsite.

Lovely campsite. Had good pitch under shady tree with views over the reed-beds to the marshes. Buffalos and hippos wandering through site. Ablutions good and clean. Great game drives nearby. Would definitely revisit.

Campsites direkt am hohen Schilfgras. Schattenspendende Bäume, alle Plätze schön, nur Nr. 3 nicht direkt am Wasser gelegen.

Report Check-In

Lovely peaceful campsite with stunning views over the plains. We stayed at #8 and were joined by a pair of lovely lechwes. A pack of five wild dogs visited on the first night! The bird life is also incredible. Highly recommend!

Report Check-In

Stayed at #9 which has a great view of the marsh. Waterbuffelo's, elephants walked right next to our car. Amazing birdlife (look out for the kingfisher). Watch out for the baboons. They steal anything if they get the chance. Abblutions are clean but too far away to walk at night from #9

Xakanaxa Camp has 10 nicely situated spacious sites with two clean ablution blocks. At 262 Pula p.P. (plus park fee 120 Pula p.P. plus 50 Pula for the car) the best deal in and around Moremi but still expensive for what you get. Site 8-10 have the best view over the grassy lagoon. Elefants and buffaly may visit the camp, also monkeys are around and we were lucky to see 6 wild dogs in the camp at our site. There is wifi at the gate but the staff will not tell you the password. They are not very interested in giving you information about wildlife sightings or helpful to change your campsite. They told us "that's not possible because we are fully booked". At the end 5 out of 10 sites were free. The "road" to Xakanaxa from South Gate is the best in the park, you have no trouble with low branches or small tracks. Track to Third Bridge is much narrower and slow going but doable with our 325 high and 220 wide truck. We knew, that 3rd bridge is broken and there is no way from Third Bridge Camp to Xakanaxa except going back to South Gate. But the staff at DWNP Office in Maun did not know about or did not want to tell us after our request. The landscape around Paradise Pools and Sitshi Pools towards Dead Tree Island is very nice. All the minor tracks are very narrow and bumpy and a challenge for big rigs, but once you are out of the Mopana it is a kind of ok. Sand is quite hard and was no problem anywhere in the park. Orientation is not easy because of many tracks, floodings, low branches, etc.. There are animals around but you have to be really lucky to find lion, leopard, wild dog and friends. Compared with Etosha or Kruger it is much more difficult to find these special animals. So, if you are here, don´t search for them but enjoy the beautiful landscape, the sounds, the clear sky and the nature around you.

Xakanaxa Camp
Beautiful 'end of the world feel' location close to the lagoon. Water available (metallic taste, not recommended for drinking) . 270 Pula pp/d. Made the 42 km road from South Gate to Xakanaxa Camp Site in 2,5 hours with many hip-deep waterholes on the road. Need good 4x4 driving skills and follow the tracks in the road. Occasionally slippery black soil.

Report Check-In

Nice and clean camp with very high trees water tap at each site 270 pula ppn

Awesome location, great views to the plains! Lots of hippos on the campground at night, we had several grazing just a few meters away from our tent, you could hear them breathe. However, they were not bad tempered at all, just ate peacefully. Also heard hyenas.

Report Check-In

We enjoyed our time at this campsite. We had camp number 6 (which is right by the ablutions) but we thought camp number 7 or 5 were the nicest (more flat space to camp). A massive elephant was right by our RTT in the middle of the night scratching its tusks on a nearby tree! We paid 270 pulas pppn and booked/paid for this at the Kwalate Safari office in Maun (it’s also listed on ioverlander).

Report Check-In

Best deal in the area at 270P per person with decent ablutions. Much better than the highway robbery at Kwhai Community where they charge 350P for a patch of dirt to wildcamped on.

Report Check-In

We really liked this campsite, especially its location as we did have a few water buffalo near our campsite and had hyenas come by our car in the night and the others who were camping near us said the day before they saw a large pack of wild dogs.

The abolutions were some if the cleanest we have seen in a very long time and the showers were hot with good pressure. We were also at campsite 6, which has a fire pit and a bbq along with a table, however it was partially broken.

One thing to be aware of is the baboons! In the morning we had a baboon steal a sealed tupperware out of one of our shelves in our gullwing with in seconds and I was standing literally right next to our car, so just stay alert.

Other than that great spot, but make sure you book ahead at their office in Maun, as we needed to show our booking to the gate.

We paid 520 pula for 2 of us for one night.

Report Check-In

Nice campground and our spot (No. 6) was next to the Ablution. We didn’t see any animals on the campground but heard some hippos at night.
We went to the Paradise Pool late afternoon and saw only one elephant.
Go to the dead tree island! There you find a lot of animals. Giraffes, impalas, hippos, elephants and a huge herd of buffalos.

Report Check-In

Make sure to spend some time around Paradise Pools when staying here. To get there drive through the gate and past the old air strip. Paradise pools is known for the leopards and wild dogs, especially in the late afternoon :) explore that whole area and be patient - we saw three leopards!

At the camp itself, I think there is a “resident elephant”. Won’t bother you. Hippos also come out of the water at night. And we saw lion paw prints in the morning!

Report Check-In

Beautiful open campsite, with elephant walking around. Ablutions are 75-100 meters away so at night you can’t walk to them b cause of animals.
Of course way too expensive but the view is worth it.

Report Check-In

Basic and expensive campsite, but Moremi is worth it. Abolition block was surprisingly clean and well maintained.

BP 540 for two people and a car. Very well maintained ablutions. Registration is at the gate some three KM South East from here.

One of those places where you have to pay a lot because it's a national park. Facilities are ok, and there are some animals about. 175 pula for SADC and 290 for international plus a 10 pula camping levy. You are in the park so fees on top. Pack away your things at night as hyenas are about!

Report Check-In

it's the location that makes this place worth staying...you won't get closer to nature! we just had an elephant at 3m while we were cooking! price is more expensive than staying outside the park but cheaper than Chobe's Savuti...45euro 2p and vehicle. bring wood because they ask a lot.toilets and shower but they advice you to drive up there instead of walking because of hyena's, elephants and even lion's. sounds pretty scary but we didn't feel unsafe, you just have to watch your back 😜

Report Check-In

So expensive but totaly worth it. The area around is so beautiful and there are so many animals around!
