Description

2 dozen or more rough off road campsites on upper Ghost River. Beautiful scenery, spectacular mountains near the Banff National Park boundary. Can get busy on long weekends. At bottom of long hill which can get tricky when wet, 4x4 a must. Popular for off roaders but gets quiet at night.

Amazing spot. Beautiful views and even got to see northern lights

Went down after May long weekend, even with an ohv ban and fire ban in place. Was so nice and quiet due to lack of activity. probably saw one vehicle a day while I was staying for 4 nights.

Don’t miss it if you’re in the area. Better to camp here on weekdays as it gets very busy at weekends. We have a 4x4 high roof van but 4x4 wasn’t needed and the high roof is not a problem on the trail leading to the river.
This spot is only an indication of where the area is, but the place is massive and you can pretty much camp anywhere around here.

Free camping on provincial crown land all along the road. And any road access you find. Trail are off limits for 'on highway' vehicles, though. Please respect fire bans and carry out what you carried in and enjoy the area responsible.

We came here on a Tuesday at the beginning of May planning to stay at the first pin along the route, but a bunch were occupied! we drive a Ford transit extended high roof, and so we weren't planning on heading down the steep hill to this site. After we walked it, we decided to try it and we were glad we did! You'll definitely need a good set of tires and some confidence driving, but on a dry day, you can probably get away with it without 4x4. No chance if there's snow or rain though! the 10 km road in is pretty bumpy so you'll have to secure absolutely everything.

If you can make it down, it's absolurely worth it. There was no river in sight in the beginning of May so we were able to drive on the riverbed. Only one other vehicle was there but probably a dozen spots to comfortably park with fire pits.

No cell service available, but plenty if you back track a few KMs.

As said, lots of sites. Even if sites on road in are full, you can almost certainly find one by the river here. Beautiful.

Absolutely amazing view! A lot of camp spots. As previously stated popular with off roaders and others but quiet at night. Saw trailers/campers at sites before it drops down to the river but basically the entire unpaved road is bumpy so care should be taken.
