Zocalo | Informal Campsite

stayed here last night after the guy at the Canon de Sumedaro parking lot wanted 100 pesos to park the car. Also, there were lot of mangoes tree and I was worried about mangoes falling on my solar panel
I felt if its safe in that isolated place in by the river, it must be safe in Zocalo roo. parked in front of police station, no problems at all. keep in mind, I have a roof top tent that is very obvious to everyone too.
I plan to leave the car here all day while I get the boat ride to the canyon.

Checked in with the police here, they said no problem to stay around the zocalo as long as we stay inside the car (aka no tent camping, obviously). It can be hard to find a parking spot before like 7pm. They switch from normal police to tourist police at 10pm. It was pretty noisy between dogs, birds, cars, and people, but the price was right!

We spent one night at the edge of the zocalo to be near the jetty, right in front of the police station. A little noisy but very practical, free and safe. People are friendly.

Pasamos una tranquila noche bajo la sombra de un enorme arbol. La gente local sumamente amable y el lugar bien lindo.

We spent a quiet night under the shade of a huge tree. The local people extremely friendly and the place very nice.
