Description

The Cederberg Wilderness Area is an amazing place to visit but its unique arrangements can absorb time and money. There is only one place to camp in the park and that is at Algeria but you can camp just south of the park at Sanddrif (check in at Dwarsrivier Winery) or Cederberg Park at Kromrivier (where we camped). They are all crazy expensive, for instance at Kromrivier they asked for R520 for 2 people but agreed to 350. You also have to pay for individual walks and get permits which give you the combination to the locked gates. The Maltese Cross walk, for instance, costs R70 pp, the rock art is 50 pp (the price list says its R70pp to picnic!). You can enter the park from the south via Ceres or the north from Clanwilliam. There are no entry fees if you are just passing through. The third way in is off the N7 about 20 km south of Clanwilliam, follow signs for Algeria. This third way is the fastest in/out of the park from Cape Town. But it's all worth it - the park is stunningly beautiful!

The Cederberg is such a stunning area, would highly recommend a visit! It's not too difficult to get to and if you enjoy nature you'll love it. Yes it can be a little expensive IF you want to do lots of activities as it adds up, but if you have a wild card it's cheap as chips. We absolutely loved our stay - hiking trails galore and mountain biking, swimming, all sorts. Stunning area. You can stay at Algeria inside the park which is lovely (cottages or camping) or at multiple places just outside the park but it kind of all blends into each other so anywhere is fine. Breweries and wineries to visit too and the observatory is nice if it's a Saturday and you like the stars. What a lovely spot.
